Claims.
The invention relatesto a water lift apparatus, and more especially to a water pump.` l
'Ihe primary object of the invention is the provision of a pump of` this` character, wherein through the use `of a stripper head having adriven cable passing therethrough, the cable being of a special character, causes water to be lifted from a well, for the discharge of such Water out of the pump during the operation of the latter, the pump beingof4 novel construction and is unique in the working thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pump of this character, wherein the cable of endless arrangement is maintained taut throughout the lifting operation thereof, to assure maximum working conditions through cooperation with the stripper head, for continuous water lifting activity of the pump.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a pump of this character, wherein the water lift cable is supported freely exible and is susceptible of smooth travel in the working of the pump, there being no oil lubrication required for the successful Working of such pump, and all parts thereof are readily accessible for repairs or replacement, the pump being motor driven for the operation thereof, although it may be manually actuated.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a pump of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, strong, durable, possessed of few parts, compact, easy of operation, positive in the working thereof, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of'construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter set forth in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1' is a vertical sectional view through a Water well and pump stand, showing the pump constructed in accordance with the invention installed therewith.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the pump.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view through the stripper head of the pump.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generally a portion o'f a water well, which may be of `any well known construction, and B denotes in entirety the pump constructed in accordance with the invention, as will be hereinafterrmore fully described. y
The pump B comprises a stripper head-in the form of a sectional cylindrical body including the lower and upper sections IIJ and II, respectively, which are inter-threaded at I2 with each other at their ends next to one another. The lower section I0 has fitted thereto at its lowermost end a reducing nipple I3 from which depends at its restricted terminal I4, a standpipe I5, while projecting from the front side of this nipple I3 is a discharge faucet I6, provided with a hand operated plug valve I1 for the turning on and off of such faucet in the usual well known manner. The upper section II is formed with an inset seal; I8 at its uppr portion for stripper diaphragm I9 held thereon by a retaining nut 20, and this diaphragm is made up of several spaced inherently flexible disks for wiper action on an endless flexible water lifting cable 2l which travels through the stripper head and passes through a suitable clearance in such disks. The stripper head forms a water collector chamber 22 therein below the stripper diaphragm I9, so that water stripped from the cable 2l will be trapped in such chamber for delivery to the faucet IB and discharge therefrom on the opening of its valve I'I. The stripper head has its upper section II vertically xed in a stand top 23 of a stand 24 for the pump B, the said stand being mounted directly over the well A, as best seen in Figure 1 of the drawings. The pipe I5 depends a distance withinthe well A into the water 25 contained therein for the lifting of the latter by the pump when operated.
On the top 23 of the stand 24 is supported an electric power motor 26, its driving shaft 2l carrying a driving pulley 28 having trained thereover the water lifting cable 2|, which is in the form of a cotton rope, the weave thereof effecting a regular pattern of small indentations, for water lifting purposes, and such pulley drives the said cable. The upward traveling stretch of this cable 2I lifts the water from the well A, and such stretch passes through thepipe I5, and through the chamber 22 to be acted upon by the diaphragm I9 for the stripping and depositing of the lifted water into such chamber, this Water being let off through the faucet I6 when desired.
At one side of the stripper head and vertically mounted in the top 23 of the stand 24 is a guide nipple 29 for the descending stretch of cable 2| in the travel ofrthe latter when the pump is o perating. The lower end of the standpipe I5 has tted thereto one of a pair of spaced guide thimbles 30 which are united by a cross web 3| for their vertical disposition in receiving the ascending and descending stretches of the cable 2| in the travel thereof.
Centrally of the web 3| is a vertical guide throat or neck 32 for a floating hanger rod 33 carrying a lower guide pulley 34 for the cable 2|, the pulley block 35 being fitted with a depending changeable Weight 3B, which functions to maintain the stretches of the cable 2| taut throughout the working period of the pump B. The cable 2| is provided with a detachable or releasable end coupling 31, so that such lcable can be replaced when required.
Overhanging the stripper head and the upper drivingpulley of the pump B is a splash box 38, which is held on the top 23 of the stand 24 for shielding purposes.
What is claimed is: v
1. A pump -of the kind described, comprising a stripper head forming a water collecting chamber, a water lift cable working through the chamber in said head, a wiper diaphragm engaging the cable for stripping water lifted thereby for deposits in the chamber, a discharge faucet on-the head and leading from the chamber, power means for operating the cable, means for guiding the cable in its travel, means for holding the cable taut under travel thereof and a standpipe depending from the head into a. body of water Within a well and having the cable movable therethrough.
2. A pump of the kind described, comprising a stripper head forming a water collecting chamber, a water lift cable working through the chamber in said head, a wiper diaphragm engaging the cable for stripping Water lifted thereby for deposits in the chamber, a discharge faucet on the head'and leading from the chamber, power means for operating the cable, means for guiding the cable in its travel, means for holding the cable taut under travel thereof, a standpipe depending from the head into a body of Water within a well and having the cable movable therethrough and -a support for the head.
3.The invention as described in claim 2 wherein the means for guiding the cable in its travel comprises a pair of spaced guide thimbles united for vertical disposition with said cable by a cross web formed at their medial points.
4. The invention as described in cliam 2 wherein the means for holding the cable taut is supported by a floating hanger rod, mounted in a vertical guide throat formed in the medial portion of a cross web uniting spaced guide thimbles for said cable. l v 5. The invention as described in claim 2 wherein the means for holding the cable taut comprises a pulley block having a depending changeable weight fitted thereon. y
