The construction just described provides portions 44 at the forward edges of the wing members l8 and 20 which lie between the slots l and the rear face of the connecting element 22 of the support, the width of which is substantially equal to the space between the side walls H! of the strut members C.
The manner in which the poster is shipped, and
upon reaching its destination, is set up for display will nowbe described.
A number of poster elements each of which may be rolled if desired, together with a corre- I ing elements may be employed.
Furthermore, the supporting element may, in certain embodiments of the invention, consist of the connecting element 22 and either of the wing members 18 or 2!! alone and still perform its two sponding number of supporting elements, preferably in fiat form, are placed in a suitable container for. shipment.
When it is desired to set up the posters, the
supporting element is first erected by folding or hinging the wing members I8 and 20 about theirrespective score lines 24 and 26 into sub.-
stantially parallel planes, after which the tongues 3U and32 are interlocked with each other to maintain the support in its erected form.
Afterthe support has been set up, the poster element is attached thereto by inserting the portions 44 at the opposite ends of the support be-' tween the side walls [0 of their respective strut members C of the poster. In so doing, one of the: side walls In of each of the strut members C will enter its respective slot 40 or 42 in the w wingmembers l8 and 20, in which they will be frictionally held to provide means of attachment of the poster element A to the support B.
' It will be understood that there is a definite relation between the vertical dimension of the poster element is not secured to the front faces of the side walls ll] of the reinforcing members C, the same will lie fiat against these side walls of the reinforcing members also presenting a smooth and unwrinkled surface at these points.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved construction in displays of the poster type in which the poster element may be formed from paper, a relatively cheaper substitute for card board, thus materially reducing the cost of manufacture of articles of this character.
It will also be apparent that a, highly desirable result is obtained by the use of a minimum number of separate parts, there being but two, namely, the poster and the support therefor.
This last result is obtained by reason of the fact that the support performs two functions, namely, it provides the only supporting means for the poster element, and at the same time providesmeans' for maintaining it in its extended display position under tension.
Iam aware that non-rigid posters and rigid supporting elements therefor have been heretofore employed in the art, but in none of these functions, namely, retaining the poster under tension and supporting it in display position.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim to be new is 1-. Acombined poster and support comprising a non-rigid poster, a channel shaped reinforcing member secured to the rear face of the poster at eachend thereof, each of said reinforcing members being disposed entirely to the rear of the poster, said supporting means comprising a connecting element, wing members hingedly connected to opposite'side edges of the connecting member, said wing members extending to the opposite ends of the connecting member and being movable to angular positions relative to the connecting member, said wing members each having a slot in its outer end for receiving one wall of their respective channel shaped reinforcing member when theposter is in its set up position, said slots'also being spaced relative to, the connecting I forcing elements of the display panel to retain the reinforcing'el'ements in their set up position thereby to place the non self supporting display devices with'which I am familiar is there a single #71 element which provides the double function of of the supportingmeans in fixed spaced relation to retain it inits set up display panel supporting position, and separate means for lockin the supporting means in said set up position.
3. .A poster of the type described comprising in combination, a non-self-supporting display panel, "reinforcing elements fixed to each of two opposite side edges of said display panel, each of said reinforcing elements comprising an open collapsible channel member, and means for supporting said display panel in display position, the supporting means comprising-an open collapsible member of channel cross sectional shape and including means for-detachable engagement with the side wallsof the reinforcing elements of the display panel to retain'the reinforcing elements in their set up gpositionsjand to retain the open channel shapedsupporting-member in its set up display? panel, supporting position, and interlocking tongues carried by the side walls of the channel shaped supporting member for locking said' memher in its set up position.
4. A poster of the type described comprising in display, panel intdisplay position, the supporting means comprising an open collapsible member of channel cross sectional shape and including means at each end for interengagement with the side walls of its respective'reinforcing element of the I I display panel to retain the reinforcing elements in their set up positions and to retain the open channel shaped supporting member in its set up display panel supporting-position, said last mentioned means comprising cut out portions in each end of the side walls of the .chanel shaped supporting member for the reception of one wall of their respective display panel reinforcing ele- 10 ments.
