Application December 27, 1943, Serial No. 515,816
3 Claims. (Cl. 441-145) This invention relates to a sign display frame.
An object of the invention is to provide a frame of the character described specially designed to be secured to an upright post and having a plurality of display faces. The frame has been particularly designed for mounting on the support-` ing post of a parking meter although it may be readily attached to any upright post or column.
It is another object of the invention to provide a display frame for advertising purposes and having novel means for quickly securing the frame to the post at the selected elevation.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompany ing drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the frame.
Figure 2 shows a top plan View.
Figure 3 shows a longitudinal, sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 shows a top, plan view of one section of the frame.
Figure 5 shows a top, plan view of the complemental section of the frame.
Figure 6 shows an enlarged, fragmentary, cross sectional view of the frame taken on the line 6--6 of Figure l and Figure 7 shows an elevational view ofthe frame as mounted on a parking meter post.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, wherein like numbers of reference designate the same parts in each of the figures, the numeral I designates the supporting post. In the present instance, a parking meter post is shown. The
frame illustrated is in the form of two longitudinal, complemental sections designated generally by the numerals 2 and 3, although a greater number of sections may be used if desired'.
Preferably the sections will be of greater vertical length than width.
The frame will be composed, preferably although not necessarily, of plastic material and the upper end of the frame is preferably, although not necessarily, tapered upwardly as shown.
At the upper and lower ends of the frame there are the inside bosses 4 and 5 which have the'inside grooves B and 7, the grooves of the sections registering when the sections are secured together.
The sections are shaped to fit closely around the post I, when secured thereon.
There are the upper and lower ring-like anchors 'la which are preferably formed of metal. These are preferably formed of half sections as shown in Figure 6.
.'Ihese upper and lower anchors may be tted around the post and the sections screwed together by means of the screws 8 so as to be clamped securely on the post l. They should be spaced apart the same distance as the grooves 6 and l. The sections 2 and 3 are then fitted about the post with the anchors 'la fitting into said grooves and the frame may then be secured to the respective anchors by the upper and lower bolts 9 which are tted through the upper and lower holes I0 in one side of the frame and through aligned holes through the bosses 4 and 5 and through the sections of the anchors 'la as shown in Figure 6 and the inner ends of the bolts 9 are threaded and screwed into the corresponding bosses.
The frame will present flat faces for carrying advertising matter. These faces are surrounded by over-turned flanges as Il and the .advertising -matter may be placed on water proof sheets i2 which are sufficiently flexible to be inserted un derneath said. flanges whereby they will be retained in place.
The drawing and description are illustrative merely, while the broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claims.
What we claim is: F
l. A sign display fri-.me comprising a plurality of sections arranged about a supporting post, and having plane outer faces, upper and lower bosses within, and connected to said frame having inside annular grooves, upper and lower anchors clamped about the post and projecting into said grooves to support the frame and bolts extended through the bosses and anchors for detachably securing the frame to the anchors.
2. A sign display frame comprising a plurality of sections arranged about a supporting post, a boss within the frame and having an inside, annular groove, said frame having external, plane surfaces, an anchor clamped about, and detachable from, the post and projecting into said groove, bolts extending through the bosses and anchor for securing the frame to the anchor, said frame having ilanges around said surfaces to receive the margins of data receiving sheets.
3. A sign display frame approximately triangular in horizontal cross section and comprising a plurality of sections shaped to be arranged WILLIAM R. MORIN, Ja. OLIVER R. .JORDEN
