PROTECTING COVER FOR SAFETY RAZORS Filed Sept. 22. 1944 I m'entar Edwzz 5170727255022,
Patented Mar. 27, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PROTECTING COVER FOR SAFETY RAZORS Edwin S. JohnstomMattoon, IlL, assignor of one- I half to Joseph L. Green, Vandalia, Ill.
Application September 22, 1944, Serial No. 555,325
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in protecting covers for safety razors, the primary object in view being to provide a simply constructed, inexpensive device which may be easily and quickly applied to safety razor of the type having a detachable handle, to cover the head and guard and protect the same and the blade against grit, dust, moisture, and to prevent injury to the edges of the blade particularly when a case for the razor is not available, alsoto protect luggage in which the razor is carried and the contents of said luggage so that the blade will not cut the same.
To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate object presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing:
Figure l is a view in side elevation of my improved protecting cover applied,
Figure 2 is a view in plan of the protecting cover v detached from the razor.
Reference being had to the drawing by numerals, my improved protecting cover has been shown therein as applied to a well known, conventionally illustrated type of Gillette safety razor including a head I embodying a doubleedged guard 2 and a transversely curved back plate 3 provided with a stud 4 extending through said guard 2 and head I and which is threaded, as at 5, for turning of the usual handle 6 thereon to clamp a double-edged blade, not shown, between the back plate and the guard 2 in a well known manner.
According to my invention, a protecting cover is provided in the form of an elongated member I of pliable, foldable material, preferably leather, and which is provided adjacent each end with an aperture 8, in the longitudinal center of the member, and of the proper size to permit the stud to be extended therethrough. The member I is of the requisite length to be folded over the back plate 3 and around the sides of the guard 2 with As will be understood, in applying the described protecting cover, the handle 6 is detached and the member 1 folded around the head I, guard 2, and back plate 3, and the back plate 3 and ends of the member manipulated o as to permit the stud 4 to be extended through the apertures 8, after which the handle 6 is turned onto the stud 5 to clamp the overlapping ends between the handle 6 and the head I. As will be manifest, the member I is designed to be stretched lengthwise in a degree suflicient to permit its application in the manner described.
The described protecting cover can be used also on the Gem safety razor of commerce by applying the same in substantially the same manner as described in the foregoing.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention, together with the advantages thereof, without further explanation.
'Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
l. A protectingcover for a safety razor of the type including a head, a stud extending rearwardly from the head and a handle threaded onto said stud, said cover comprising an elongated member of pliable material adapted to be folded around said head and having an aperture in each end adapting said ends for the insertion of said stud therethrough and for clamping be tween the head and handle.
2. A protecting cover for a safety razor of the type including a head, a stud extending rearwardly from the head and a handle threaded onto said stud, said cover comprising an elongated member of pliable material adapted to be folded around said head and having an aperture in each end adapting said ends for the insertion of said stud therethrough and for clamping between the head and handle, said member having a limited EDWIN S.
