SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,180, dated February 1, 1881.

Be it known that I, EDWARD P. HAFF, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Razor- Strops, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to furnish razor-strops so constructed as to have a stationary oval strop upon one side and a flexible strop upon the other side, and which will allow the tension of the flexible strop to be readily regulated.

A is a bar of suitable length and width to form the body or stock of the strop. To the side edges and outer end of the bar A are attached the edges of a leather strip, B, between which strip and the side of the bar A is inserted a padding, 0, of fine sawdust or other suitable material, to give an oval form to the leather B. The other end of the leather B is passed over an arched strip, D, of sheet metal, the ends of which are secured to the side edges of the bar A, and which forms a box or receptacle to receive a composition to be applied to the strop. The strap B is glued at the handle end to the arched composition box or plate D. To the end parts of the other side of the bar A are attached two blocks, E F, the inner ends of which are beveled, concaved, or rounded.

G is a strip of leather, one end of which is firmly secured to the outer end of the bar A. The other end of the leather Gris passed around the inner end of the bar A, and overlaps and is secured to the other side of the inner end of the said bar A, beneath the plate D. Between the folded part of the leather G and the inner end of the bar A is inserted a metal bar, H, of a length equal to the width of the bar A, of a width about equal to the thickness of the bar A and block F, and of such a thickness as will give a sufficient bearing to the screw 1, which passes through. a screw-hole in the center of the said bar H and a hole or short slot in the leather G. The forward end of the screw I enters a socket in the end of the bar A or block F, or partly in the said bar and partly in the said block, and rests against a metal block, plate, or step, J, placed at the inner end of the said socket. To the-outer end of the screw I is attached a handle, K, to serve as a handle to the screw I and also to the strop. With this construction, by turning the screw I in or out the tension of the leather strip G can be adjusted as required.

The fold of the leather strip G may be covered by a metal plate, L, the ends of which are bent around the ends of the nut-bar H, and through the center of which the screw I passes. The plate L is intended to give a finish to the end of the strop, and may be omitted if desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A razor-strop constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of the bar A, having blocks E F attached to one side of its ends, the stationary oval strap B, the strop G, adapted to be tightened or loosened, the nut-bar H, and the screw 1, as set forth.
