Application August 24,1942, Serial No. 456,099 I I This invention relates to printing presses of the flat-bed type, wherein the bed is reciprocated back and forth beneath the impression cylinder of the press. relates to a bed motion employing a horizontally arranged endless driving medium with a link or similar member coupling one part` of said endless driver with the bed to provide a constant feed of the `bed back and forth` inthe press, and especially in providing a uniform speed of the bed during the printing stroke of the press. The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description when taken More particularly, the invention together with the accompanying drawings, in i which certain embodiments of'the inventionare disclosed, and in which the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views; and in which:

In the operation of printing presses 0f the type and kind under construction, many types and kinds of bed motions have been employed,
and most of these motions have involved the intermittent pick-up and carry motion. Efforts have also been made to provide what might be termed a chain drive, employing `vertically `arranged sprockets and chains with the coupling between the chain and bed moving'vertically with centralize the transmission of power to the bed in actuating the same, while at the same timeV employinga full bed motion with a minimum length of conveyor driver. Further, a bed motion of this type and kind, also materially simplifies the drive between the bed and the impression cylinder and maintains the means for properly V,6 claims. Centrally of the frame is a drive shaft `I5 having at one end a large gear I6 which meshes -with an idler I1, the latter in turn meshing with a gear I8, on the shaftfof the impression cylin-` der I 9. VArranged adjacent the cylinder I9, are ink rollers 20and `in Fig. 1.1 have shown at 2l, part of a feed board adjacent the cylinder I9.
It will be noted from a consideration of Fig. 2 of the drawings that the` tracks II aredisposed centrally of the bed,` as well as at side portions thereof. `This provides awell supportedbed, and also does not interfere withthe aircylinders 22, usually employed within the frame of the Vpress as is diagrammatically illustrated in Fig.` 2.
