A further object is to provide a prepared outsole which can be easily secured to the upper and insole in accordance with the principles of this invention.

Referring now to the .drawing in detail, the invention is illustrated as applied to a cemented shoe made in accordance with the general principles of the Sbicca method of making cemented shoes, as described in. United States Patent No. 1,838,708, but it will be understood that my invention applies to all other types of cemented shoes. 'f

Then while the adhesive is still moist or soft and tacky, a layer 26v of felt or other suitable libres in dry condition is applied to said cement coatedsurface. Preferably in applying the iibres to the outsole, said fibres are blown onto the adhesive coated surface, but it will be understood that said layer of fibres may be applied in any other suitable way. Then a thin coating 28 of cement, usually a pyroxylin adhesive, is applied to the layer of bres, whereby the felt fibres are coated with adhesive and secured in the layer. Thereafter, usually after the cement has dried, the layer of bres is provided with a plurality of indentations or shallow pits 30 disposed .preferably substantially throughout the upper surface of said felt layer. 1. In a cemented shoehaving an upper, an insole, and an outsole, said outsole comprising a leather sole blank having a layer of libres adhesively secured to the upper surface thereof, and a coating of adhesive on the' upper surface of "said layer of fibres, said layer of adhesive `coatedfibres having a plurality of indentations yin the upper surface thereof, said outsoleblank being securedV to said insole and to the lasting allowance of said upper by said layer of fibres and said adhesive; l

2.-,"A'prepared outsole for a cemented shoe, said outsole comprising a leather sole blank having a layer of bres adhesively secured to the upper surface thereof, and a coating of adhesive on the upper surface of said layer of fibres, said layer of` adhesive coated fibres having a plurality o'f indentations inl the upper surface thereof.

In a cemented shoe having an upper, an insole, and a leather outsole, means securing said outsole to said insole and to the outer surface of the lasting allowance of said upper, said means comprising a layer of felt fibres on the upper surface of said leather outsole adhesively secured to said surface of the outsole and to the outer surfaces of the said insole and lasting allowance of the upper, said layer of adhesive coated fibres having a plurality of indentations in the upper surface thereof.

6. In a cemented shoe having an upper, an insole, and a leather outsole, a fibrous layer interposed between the upper surface of said leather outsole and the adjacent surface of the lasting allowance of the upper vand between the upper outsole comprising a leather sole blank having a central raised forward portion and an upper suruface below the upper surface of said raised portion, and va fibrous layer adhesively secured to said first mentioned upper surface and having a coating of cement thereon for 'adhesively securing the outsole to the upperof the shoe.
