2 Claims. (Cl. 299-96) This invention relates to incendiary bomb and iire extinguishers of a generally similar nature to that constituting the subject matter of my copending. application Serial No. 440,358, iiled on April 24, 1942, upon which the present apparatus constitutes an improvement.
An important object of the present invention is to provide, in an extinguisher of the character described Comprising a tank for the reception of water and air under pressure, a novel construction and arrangement of foot actuated pump for storing compressed air in said tank.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide an extinguisher of the aforementioned character comprising a unique closure for the tank which will prevent leakage and which, in addition, will permit said tank to be expeditiously relled.
Still another very important object of the invention is to provide an incendiary bomb and fire extinguisher comprising control valves and nozzles of a novel construction and arrangement.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an improved, portable incendiary bomb and fire extinguisher which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eiiicient and reliable in use, light in weight, compact, and which may be manufactured at W cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like ,characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an improved incendiary bomb and fire extinguisher constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional View through the lower porti-on of the device, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that vthe embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a tank of suitable capacity and material which is designated generally by reference numeral I. The tank I includes an elevated bottom 2 and a false bottom 3, thus providing upper and lower chambers 4 and 5, respectively, the former for the reception of water and air under pressure.
The lower compartment 5 in the tank I is for the reception of a foot operated pump 6. The pump 6 includes a base 1 which is rmly secured to the false bottom 3, said base projecting outwardly through a vertically elongated opening 8 which is :provided therefor in the lower portion of the tank I. A pumpcylinder 9 is rockably mounted, as at I0, on one end portion of the base 1. A suitable piston Il 'is mounted for reciprolcation in the cylinder 9. The piston II is fixed 0n one end of a rod I2. Pivotally mounted on the other end portion of the base 'I is a treadle or the like I3. The piston rod I2 is pivotally Iconnected at I4 to the treadle I3. A spring I5 returns the treadle I3 to raised position. A flexible tubev I6 connects the pump cylinder r9 to a Valve I1 which depends from the bottom 2 for injecting air under pressure into the compartment 4 of the tank I. Of course, the opening 8 also accommodates the foot of the operator which actuates the treadle I3.
The top I8 of the tank I has formed therein a filling opening I9. Mounted 0n the top I8 and rising therefrom is a ller neck 20 which encircles the opening I9. The ller neck 20 includes an internal base flange 2l which is secured to the top I8 and on which an annular sealing gasket 22 rests. As best seen in Figure 5 of the drawings, the filler neck 20 further includes an internal, downturned flange 23 on its upper end having diametrically opposite, inclined slots 24 therein. The neck 2U is for the reception of a removable closure 25 which is engageable on the resilient sealing gasket 22 for closing the openingV I9. In the embodiment which `has been shown, the closure 25 is substantially cup-shaped. Rigidly secured, as by riveting, on the closure 25 is a substantially U-shaped carrying handle 26. Journaled in the end portions of the handle 26 andin the closure 25 is a shaft 21 comprising protruding end portions which are flattened in a manner to form cams 28.
