The hinge fitting of this invention provides a secure mounting for the lid which may swing up and out of the way, or to the down position, shown in Fig. l, where it provides an efiective closure for the open mouth of the decanter. For its :afiixation to the decanter the hinge fitting employs only the handle-band connection that is customarily provided. This connection need not be modified in the least for reception of the hinge bracket. The presence of the bracket, when used, is scarcely visible, and its appearance, such as it is, in nowise detracts from or noticeably aflects the eye appeal which the decanter may have for the user.

I claim:

i. For use with a decanter around whose neck is a band having its ends outturned for clamping connection along opposite sides of a handle base, a hinge bracket having spaced wings extended along opposite edges of the handle base and along each band end in engagement therewith, a bolt extending through the handle base interconnecting the bracket wing and the band ends thereto and affording the sole connecting medium between the band and handle and between the handle and bracket, the bracket having a body extended upwardly between the handle base and the decanter neck, interengaging means on the bracket and handle base for preventing relative rotary movement therebetween about the axis of the bolt, and arms extending from the bracket body each formed with a finger extending toward the other-in mutual alignment to provide a pair of trunnions between which a be mounted for pivotal movement.

2. For use with a decanter around whose neck is a band having its ends outturned for clamping connection along. opposite sides of a handle base, a hinge bracket having spaced bowed spring wings extended along opposite edges of the handle base and along each band end in engagement therewith, a bolt extending through the handle base interconnecting the bracket wings and the band ends thereto and affording the sole connecting medium between the band and handle and between the handle and bracket, the bracket having a body extended upwardly between the handle base and the decanter neck, interengaging means on the bracket and handle base for preventing relative rotary movement therebetween about the axis of the bolt, screw mean cooperating with the bolt to exert a clamping pressure against the spring wings counter to the tension force thereof,

and spaced spring arms extending from the bracket body each formed with a finger extending toward the other in mutual alignment to provide, when distended, a pair of trunnions between which a decanter lid may be mounted and spring held for pivotal movement.

3. 4. For use with a decanter around whose neck is a band having its ends outturned for clamping connection along opposite sides of a handle base, a hinge bracket having spaced wings extended along opposite edges of the handle base and along each band end in engagement therewith, a bolt extending through the handlebase interconnecting the bracket wings and the band ends thereto and affording the sole connecting medium between the band and handle and between the handle and bracket, .the bracket having a body extended upwardly between the handle base and the decanter neck, interengaging means on the bracket and handle base for preventing relative rotary movement therebetween about the axis of the bolt, and spring arms extending from the bracket body each formed with a finger extending toward the other in mutual alignment to provide, when distended, a pair of trunnions between which a decanter lid may be mounted and spring held for pivotal movement.

5. For use with a decanter around whose neck is a band having its ends outturned tor clamping connection along opposit sides of a handle base, there being also a lid for the decanter equipped with a lateral tongue extending toward the handle in partial overlying relation to its base, the tongue being formed with aligned sockets upon its two opposite sides, a hinge fitting extended between the decanter and handle base and slidingly interlocked with the latter and the clamped ends of the band, the fitting being formed with spaced arms extending to a point close to the top of the decanter and provided with a pair or fingers extending toward each other in mutual aligrunent for engagement with the sockets of the lid tongue to afford a pivoted trunnion support therefor.

6. For use with a decanter around whose neck is a band having it ends outturnedfor clamping connection along opposite sides of a handle base, there being also a lid for the decanter equipped with a lateral tongue extending toward the handle in partial overlying relation to its base, a hinge fitting extended between the decanter and handle base and secured fixedly to the latter, the fitting being formed with spaced arms extendin to a point close to the top of the decanter and along opposite sides or the lid tongue, and a pivotal connection between the spaced arms and the tongue therebetween acting to support the lid for swinging movement over the decanter.
