Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE PRATT, OF SOUTHSEA, COUNTY OF HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFIGATION fQrming part of Letters Patent No. 235,895, dated December 28, 1880,
Application filed December 2, 1878. Patented in England May 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE PRATT, of Southsea, in the county of Hampshire, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buckles used for Connecting Leather Straps, (patented in England May 1, 1876, N 0. 1,826 and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of harness and other buckles in which a double set of tongues are arranged, one pointing in one direction and the other in the opposite; and it consists in the construction hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
In order that my invention may be well understood, I have hereunto annexed a sheet of drawings, and have referred thereto in the following particular description by figures and letters of reference.
Figure 1 is a plan or top view, and Fig. 2 a side View, of a double buckle constructed according to this invention.
A is the frame; B, tongue at one end, pointing in an opposite direction to the tongues B at the other end, and the frame of the buckle is formed with an upward bend or shoulder,
A, so as to form a loop through which. the
end of the strap may be passed. Above the shoulder A is arranged a metal loop, 0, to receive the end of the strap at the other end of the buckle, and when necessary this loop is made to turn on a hinge, as shown in dotted lines 0, Fig. 2; or the buckle may be made with a hinge or joint at the bend A.
D and E are loops, respectively curved and angular on the edge of the buckle, for securing a strap or ring, or otherwise attaching the buckle.
I am aware that buckles having hinged tongues pointing both ways, and so as to serve the purpose of attaching the buckle to the strap as well as securing the free end, are well known, and therefore do not claim such construction as my invention.
I claim as my invention A buckle having the sides of the frame bent, as at A, to turn the two ends of frame into different planes, with two sets of tongues hinged in the frame, one set pointing toward one end andthe other setin the opposite direction, and a loop, 0, over the frame, all as described.
