SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,877, dated December 28, 1880.

To all whom @t may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS BURTEN JONES, ot` Rochester, in the county of Butler and the State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hoisters, for raising heavy weights, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to that class of hoisters with a lever, said lever having a large morio tise in body of' it, through which Works an upright post, said. lever and post being snpplied With holes for the reception of pins, so as to allow the placing ofthe lever at any height upon the post. Said lever has at the' end an open mortise for the reception of an iron hook held by an iron pin and working loose in said mortise. The foot of the post is made large, and is furnished with a stout iron pin or peg, which enters the ground and keeps said post 2o from slipping. There is a locking-chainexi tending from foot ot' post to long arm of lever, Where itis attached to a ring workin gin notches cnt upon the top side of long arm of lever. This chain is furnished with extra links, so as to be lengthened to suit height ot' lever upon post.
The iron hook at short arrn ot' lever has also gage-holes in it, so as to be raised and lowered.
In the accompanying drawing, in which similar letters ot reference indicate the like 3o parts, A is the lever-arm. B is the post with gage-holes for-the pin K, which extends through post and lever. D is enlarged part or foot of post B, also showing peg in bottom. F is large mortise in lever A, through which post B extends. E is open mortise for iron hook C, held in plaee by bolt L. G is locking-chain, extending from foot D ot' post B to ring H, working in notches I upon top ot' lever A, which, upon being depressed, will raise the 4o weight to which the hook O is attached.
The fence-hoisting apparatus consisting ot' the adjustable and slotted lever, the post, hook O, chain and hook Gr H, and the bolts, the Whole arranged as described.
