1 Claim.
This invention relates to pan lifters, and its general object is to provide a device of that character which is primarily designed for attachment to pie plates, pans or.the like, to facilitate'handling the same and especially for removing a pan from an oven, as such can be accomplished in an easy and expeditious manner, without damaging y features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a .perspective view of the devicev which forms the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side view illustrating the device attached to a pan.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary topplan view of Fig- Y ure 1, with the pan in horizontal section.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the letter AY indicates a pie plate or pan that includes the usual outwardly inclined side wall B formed with a marginal flange C having a downwardly di-k rected annular rounded bead D about its upper edge, as shown in Figure 2.
The device in the form shown includes a handle provided with a relatively long shank l formed on and aligned with an elongated gripping member 2, the latter being round in cross section and may have a transversely disposed hole 3 therethrough, adjacent its outer end, for receiving suitable supporting means such as a nailfor suspending the device therefrom, when not in use.
The outer end of the shank is slightly enlarged and formed thereon is a flat lug 4 disposed at an inclined angle to the shank. Weldedv or otherwise fixed to the outer face of the lug 4 is an arcuate strip like member 5 curved to follow the Y circumferential shape of the side wall B of the pan, the strip member being xed midway its ends, to the lug for disposal an equal distance upon the opposite sides thereof, as best shown in Figure 3. Formed on or otherwise secured to the strip member 5, adjacent to its louter end to project from the outer face thereof, are substantially conical knobs 6, to bear against the side wall B.
Formed on and rising at a rearward inclination midway the upper edge of the strip member is an elongated tongue 1 that is bowed rearwardly intermediate its ends, as at 8 and is tapered inwardly throughout its height as well as terminates in a rearwardly fiared upper end portion having a substantially sharp edge 9 to be seated at the juncture of the bead D with the under face of the flange C, as shown in Figure 2, to cooperate with the intermediate portion of the strip member that bears against the wall B, as best shown in Figure 3 to ,support the pan. The bearing engagement of `the knobs 6 with the wall B prevents lateral movement of thepan relative to the device, with the result it will be seen that the pan is rmly held against casual removal or displacement and can be readily lifted and carried by the device, yet the latter'can be attached and removed with respect to the pan in an easy and expeditious manner. Y
It is thought from the foregoing description Athat the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be" :rearwardly inclined therefrom, said tongue being rearwardly bowed intermediate its ends and the upper end thereof being adapted to engage the bead, and knobs secured to the strip adjacent to the outer ends thereof to bear against said wall.
