INVENTOR. P4 TR/CA elf 0L 5 Y A T TORNEX Patented Sept. 19, 1944 'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ICE COOLER FOR BEER BARRELS AND THE LIKE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to ice coolers for beer barrels and the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a relatively inexpensive and strong pan for icing beer barrels and other types of barrels or containers by placing said beer barrels or containers partly Within said pan.
Another object of this invention is to provide an ice cooling pan with an auxiliary jacket when it is desired to cool the contents of the barrel or the like in a shorter time.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel arrangement and combination of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described andclairned, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where in:
Figure 1 is a' front elevation of the ice cooler or pan supporting the beer barrel or the like therein.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the ice cooler or ice pan per se showing the legs, supports or ribs thereof in broken lines, which rib greatly reinforce or strengthen the bottom of the cooler, it being understood that the cooler may be buried in concrete so that the outside rim of the cooler will be even or flush with the floor surface.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a partial section showing the auxiliary jacket in place.
Figure 5 is a plan of the auxiliary jacket per se.
Referring to the drawing, Ill denotes an ice cooler or ice pan which is circular in cross-section but with slopin sides H which facilitates the manufacture of it through the process of casting. On the bottom outer surface [2 of the pan there is provided two elongated legs, supports or reinforcing ribs 13 and I4 both of which are integrally formed with said bottom. On the opposite side of the bottom of the pan there are provided three spacing supports l5, l6 and I! which will prevent the bottom of any barrel or 7 in spaced relation with each other mean may be provided for draining from one pan to another (not shown in the drawing). ther noted that the supports I5, l6 and H are also formed integrally with said pan l0.
It is sometimes desired to provide additional cooling means to the barrel or container B and in order to do that the extension auxiliary jacket 20 is utilized and which comprises a cylindrical shell H which is hinged at 22 vertically and encompasses the barrel B or the like and is secured together by a holding means 23. This auxiliary jacket may vary in size so that it may either fit into the pan H] as shown in the drawing or it may be relatively larger so as to rest on the periphery 24 0f the pan l0.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. I
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An ice cooler for beer barrels or the like'comprising a pan having a bottom and sloping sides, said bottom having a pair of long spaced integral parallel ribs on its outer surface and a plurality of spaced short integral angularly-disposed ribs on its inner surface, the upper edge of said sides of the pan having spaced overflows, a jacket resting within the pan, said jacket comprising a pair of hinged sections and latch means in opposed relation to the hinge of said sections for locking the'latter.
