COLLAPSIBLE BUCKET.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, ISABEL HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at May, in thecounty of Lemhi and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Collapsible Bucket; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be :1. 151111, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as. will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 1

An object of the invention is to provide an efficient collapsible bucket adapted when not in use to be folded into a compact form to occupy the minimum space for transpor tation and storage so that for example it can be conveniently carried in a vehicle or car and yet when extended for use it will be substantial and relatively water tight and therefore may efficiently be employed as a convenient article of camping outfit and the like, and with this object in View the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The bucket consists of the telescoping irusto-conical sections or

members

10 and 11 respectively forming the rim and bottom of the receptacle, and one or more intermediate members 12 also of frusto-conioal form. lVhen the bucket is collapsed all of the members are adapted for arrangement in the plane of the bottom member 11 as indicated in Figure 2 of the drawing. I

The top member 10 is provided with a handle or carrying bail 13 adapted to be folded within the bucket when not in use, To prevent any possibility of the members of the bucket from becoming separated during the use of the bucket, a retaincr leis employed. The retainer consists of a lower ection 15 which is connected at its lower end by a hinge 16 to the lower edge of the bucket member 11, and an upper section 17 which is provided at its upper end with a hook 18 adapted to be engaged over the upper edge of the bucket member 10 when the bucket members are extended. 15 and 17 are extended the bolt 19'engages the top wall of the slot 20 and the bottom wall of the slot 21 as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings. The manner in which the

retainer sections

15 and 17 are connected together permits the retainer section 17 to be moved downwardly with respect to the retainer section 15 whereby to shorten the retainer and permit it to be folded against ,5 the bottom of the bucket member 11. When the bucket members are collapsed, and when the retainer is shortened and folded against the bottom of the bucket member 11, and when the handle or carrying bail 13 is swung within the bucket member 10, the bucket may be placed within a receptacle 22. The receptacle is wholly open at its upper side and closing said side is a removable cover 23.

The bucket section 10 is provided with a pouring spout 2 1 at a point diametrically opposite the retainer 14. An opening 25 establishes communication between the bucket and the spout 2 1, and a guard 26 prevents water passing over the upper edge of the bucket when the bucket is tilted to discharge its contents through the opening 25 and spout 24:. To permit the retainer to be folded beneath the bucket member 11, the edge of such bucket member is provided at a point adjacent the hinge 16 with a notch 27.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it should be apparentthat the bucket may be'readily and quickly collapsed when it is desired to store the same and that when collapsed it will occupy the minimum space. It should also be apparent, that the bucket may be readily and quickly extended when it is desired to use the same. Just before the bucket has been fully extended, the retainer 1 1 should be swung from beneath the bucket member 11 into engagement with the side of the bucket and the retainer section 17 should be moved upwardly with relation to the retainer section 15 and the hooked end 18 of the retainer moved into position to be engaged by the upper edge of the bucket member 10 when the bucket is fully extended. The retainer 14: provides simple and efficient means for preventing the bucket members from becoming separated during the use of the bucket.

While the preferred embodiment of this invention is shown and described it will be understoodthatminor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is p 1. An extensiblebucket comprising a plurality of frusto-conical sections of which the lower section is provided with a bottom, a

bail carried by the upper section and adaptedto be folded into the-upperseotion when the bucket is collapsed, an extensible retainer to prevent separation of the sections, said retainer being hinged to the lower section and having a hooked terminal to engage over the edge of the upper section.

2. An extensible bucket comprising a plurality of frusto-conical sections of which the walls of the lower section incline downwardly and outwardly from their upper edge to provide a supporting base for the bucket, the upper section of the bucket being collapsible into the lower section, and a bail pivotedinternally of the upper section and adapted to be folded into the upper section when the bucket is collapsed, an extensible retainor to prevent separation of the sections, said retainer being hinged to the lower section and having a hook terminal to engage over the edge of the upper section.
