SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,641, dated December 21, 1880. Application filed April 19, 1880. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, EDWARD L. MORRIS, of Boston, in the county of Sufi'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved toy in which is-contaiued an air-chamber having a slit in its side, through which a figure is caused to appear by blowing into the said chamber upon a suitable valve or partition.

It consists, further, in the application of a musical attachment to the toy, as described.

In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved toy is illustrated, Figure I being a view of the same broken open at its side so as to show the interior of the air-chamber, and Fig. 2 being another form of making the same toy.

Similar letters refer to similar parts in Figs.

. l and 2, and the same description applies to each.

In Fig. 2 the valve A is simply reversed, being pivoted at its lower rather than its upper end, and the whistle F in Fig. 2 is attached to the "alve rather than to the body of the toy.

A represents a partition or valve hung loosely within the air-chamber upon the pin or pivot B. O is a figure of any suitable design, attached to the valve A in such a manner that when the valve is at rest the figure is either partly or wholly out of sight, as may be desired. D is a slit or opening, through which the figure O is caused to pass when the valve A is raised. E is an opening in the end of the air-chamber, so constructed as to be easily received within the mouth of the operator.

Now, when the operator applies his mouth to the opening E and blows into the air-chamber, the valve A is lifted by the pressure of the air upon it, and the figure 0, being attached thereto, is caused to pass through the slit D and appear upon the outside of the toy, there' by producing an amusing effect.

A whistle, F, or other-musical attachment may be placed within the air-chamber, so as to be operated by the force of wind at the same time that the valve A and figure O are Raised. thus adding to the startling effect.

I do not confine myself to the forms of toy illustrated in the drawings, as a variety of forms may be used embodying the same invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim,- aud desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A toy having an air-chamber supplied with the blow-hole E, valve or partition A, figure O, and slit D, arranged to operate substautiall y as and for the purpose described.

2. In combination with a toy having an aircharnber with blow hole E, valve or partition A, figure 'O, and slit D, a musical attachment, F, arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
