A further, more specinc object is to provide a base or assembly frame, which may be formed by an automatic ma'chine instrumentality froma single piece or suitable material and which will rockably support and guide actuating reciproeating levers for the purpose of actuating a blade forming a part oi the assembly so that the blade will cut the hair instead of scraping 'the same.A
A further object of the base or assembly frame is to provide means for guiding a retaining lever adapted to operate a slidable blade supporting blade holder to be mounted on and guided by the base or frame above described, and which may be readily stamped from a single piece of d suitable material.

In order to form the blade holder a sheet of material is pressed in a plane form. In each end thereof there are formed slots and a downturned lug V25, which is provided with a horizontal lip 26.
On each end on the lips 26 there is extruded an upwardly extended boss 21. In forming the downturned lugs there is left on each side of the body horizontally extended ears 28 which at each corner are provided with projectingvertical blade positioning lugs 23. y Intermediate of its ends the body 28 is formed with upwardly extending positioning bosses 38, to

The body 26 is provided with a central opening -38 through which may be inserted fro'm the bottom a thimble 33, passing through the arcuate spring 31 and through theA opening in the body y28 and providedwith a flange 46 which bears against the under surface of the spring 31. The thimble 33 is provided with opposite diametrical longitudinal slots 4I, adjacent its upper end, so
that a key 42 (Figure 6) may be inserted through theseslots over the upper surface or the body of material 28. The key 42 is provided with a'at into the central depression 36. Referring more specifically to Figure 11 of the drawing, at each end of the reciprocating blade supporting element 26 there is disposed a lever 54the ends of which extend through the slots 28 (Figure 2) and each of these levers is provided with an extension 55 'at each end arranged to abut the cam surfaces 58 of the actuating rolls.
The levers54 are provided with suitable openings or depressions 54a into which fit the bosses 21 of the lips 26 to afford a fulcrum for the levers 54 when actuated by the cam surfaces 5|).l Ihe opposite ends of the levers 54 rest against and abut the cam surfaces ofthe opposite roll. It will be noted that the en'ds of the levers 54 operate against the cam surfaces of the opposed rollers so that there is a continuity of action without break in reciprocating the blade carrier.
Referring specifically to Figures 1 and 8, the assembly hereinbefore described is covered by a cap 56 which acts as a guard and which is pro-y videdat each end with an integral nange 51, each of which flanges terminates at each'end in ears 58.- The rear side of the lcapis provided with openings ,58 (Figure 1), the material from the openings being extruded and the front edge being gbottom surface 43 and an arcuate upper surface 44. The fiat bottom surface 43 is of a size' to fit tained in position and itsfiat surface will rest in the'depression 36.
In the modified means for locking the blade in position, as shown in Figure'l, the thimble 46 and its parts are identical with what is shown in Figure 6; but the locking device takes the form of a spring 46 havingv depressions 41, the latter of which operate the same as the depressions 45 of the locking key44 shown in Figure 6. In both forms when the locking elements (44 or 46) are longitudinal with relation to the part 28 the blade 32 is removable. When the locking'eleyments are turned ninety degrees the blade is locked in position as shown in Figure 1.
Coming now to Figures 1, 4 and 11 of the drawing, actuating rolls are formed from a cylindrical body of suitable material, which may be metal or plastic. The rolls are each formed. of a cylindrical body having at each end a reduced portion' 48, merging in a less reduced portion 48, leaving extending from the body a surface comprovided through the ears 58 with dome shaped extrusions 60 adapted to t over the dome shaped extrusions23 of the openings 22 'inthe ends of ythe frame or supporting 'member I1. The front edge of the cap or cover 56 is further provided at the corners thereof, vwith shields or extensions 6I, and the ears 58 are provided with downwardly extending extensions or ears 62.
The. individual parts as described are first made through the medium of automatic machinery. In the assembly of the-'finished razor, handle l2 iS Secured to the blade supporting element I1 in either of the two ways. described. The blade supporting element 28 is disposed in the supporting frame so that the`downturned horizontally extended flanges 25 and 26 are between the sidewalls I3 ofthe supporting frame and the edges of the body28 abut the side walls I9 which form guides. The actuating vlevers 54 are disposed so that their ends project through the slots 20 and over the horizontal lips 26 and so that the bosses 21 extend through the openings 54a into the bosses of the levers 54. In that way the ends of the levers 54 extending through the slots 2| maintain the blade carrying element in reciprocal relation to the frame, the' downturned portions 25 and 26 of the blade carrying element being' retained in position and guided by inner and upper surfaces of the walls I9 of the frame or supporting member. The 'reduced ends 48 of vthe rollers are snapped into-the openings 22 of theA supporting frame I1. lThe blade 32 is disposed on the holder 28 and the locking element lis turned to the position shown inlifigure 1.

A razor comprising a supporting element, a reciprocable blade carrier mounted on the supporting element. means carried by the supporting element for reciprocating the carrier, and a resilient cover cap pivoted at one longitudinal edge to one corresponding edge of the supporting element and provided with means at its opposite edge to engage the other edge of the supporting element and provided with guards at its free corners to cover the corners of a blade disposed on said carrier.

As an article of manufacture aA unit for a razor comprising a supporting element formed from a single sheet of material, having its ends bent upwardly at right angles to the sheet and having its sides bent at an angle to form channel guides provided with guide slots midway the height of their end portions.

9. As an article of manufacture, ablade carrier l for safety razors comprising a sheet of material f formed with downreaching lugs centrally of its [depression adapted to receive a. blade locking member.

A razor comprising a supporting element formed froma single sheet of material having its Vends bent at an angie to the sheet and having its sides bent at an angle to lform guides said ends projecting outwardly beyond the sides and' having perforations in their extremities, a blade carrier `comprising aV sheet of material formed with downturned lugs disposed between the sides 'of the supporting element and adapted to be guided thereby, means for reciprocating the car-`-` serted throughl the opening, a key disposed central opening, lips extending and depending means for reciprocating the carrying element,
and a cover disposed to overlay the carrying element.
13. A razor comprising a holder, a bladesuppon carried on said no1der,means to move said support reciprocat'ively, a resilient .clamp for removably attaching a blade on said support, and
a cover plvoted to said holder at the corners of one o! its longer edges.
14. A razor comprising a holder, a blade support movable reciproatively in said holder,v ,means for actuating said support, means for resiliently clamping a blade on the support. a cover pivoted to said holder, and resilient meansto retain the cover when closed.
