This invention relates to a winder or reeling device of simpleand practical construction and is especially adapted for winding yarnor similar materials on a core in substantially ball for,-

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a portable support including a panel-like body 6 and a handle 'l whereby a person may conveniently grasp and support the def vice for use.
The body 6 is provided with a bore in which is tightly fitted a sleeve 8, one end of which has integral therewith a cam 9 held in a fixed position with respect to the support and spaced a limited distance from one edge of the body B. The sleeve also has fixed thereon a washer or collar I0 and secured thereto is a bracket I I terminating in a yarn guide I2 of spiral formation, as clearly shown in Figure 1.
The sleeve is to have non-rotation with respect to the body 6 and the securing thereof in the body can be carried out in any well known manner. The sleeve rotatably supports an operating shaft I3, one end of which has removably secured thereto a crank handle I4 whereby the shaft may be manually rotated.
In operation, the operator grasps the handle 'l with one hand to arrange the support 5 horizontally with the crank handle I4 disposed lowermost so that it can be conveniently rotated by the other hand of the operator. The upper end` Vof the shaft I3 has secured thereto-a bracket I5 including angularly disposedportions IIA `and I1. Said portions I6 and I1 are arranged at substantially angle to each other with the portion I6 secured to the shaft I3 for rotation therewith.
`The portion II of the bracket I5 has detachably lsecured thereto and adjacent its free endone end of a spindle I8. A set screw I9` threads into said end of the spindle. f
Journaled on the spindle I8 is afsleeve 20 being retained on the latter for rotation by the portion I1 of the bracket I5 at one end of the spindle, while the opposite. end isk engaged by a removable set screw 2| threaded into .the end 0f the sleeve 20 has formed thereon a key 22 to t within grooves provided in theaperturedgend plate of a core 23. The core 23 ymay be readily slipped onto the sleeve 20 from the uppermost. end of the latter with the key 22 fitting within the key Slots or ways so that .the core Will rotate'with the sleeve 20. It is to be understood that thev core has agtight frictional fit with. the sleeveso that it will not accidentally slip endwise of'- said sleeve during the use of the device and also to retain the core so that the axis of rotation of the shaft I3 extends to the core in a diagonal manner as indicated in Figure 1.
The guide I2 of the bracket II is arranged horizontally to the core so that the yarn Will feed onto the core as indicated by the arrow in Figure 1.
Pivoted on the portion I6 of the bracket I5 by a pivot I6', is a lever 24, one end of which is bifurcated, as shown at 25, to engage with the cam 9 and the opposite end is bifurcated, as shown at 26, to receive a reduced end 21 of a lever 28 journaled on the set screw I9.l The free end of the lever 28 is bent angularly, as shown at 29, s
to form a support for a spring type dog 30. A ratchet gear 3| is formed on one end of the sleeve 20 and is engaged by the dog 30. Pivoted on the portion I'l of the bracket I5 is a dog 32 also engageable with the ratchet gear 3|'. One end of the dog 32 is weighted to hold the dog in engagement with the ratchet gear. The purpose of the dog 32 is to restrain the ratchet gear against rotation when the dog 30 is ratcheting relative thereto.
Pivotal movement of the lever 24 is brought about by the xed cam and the rotation of the bracket I5 by the crank handle I4. The lever 24 in turn causes the lever 28 to pivot and the dog 30 carried thereby cooperates with the ratchet gear to bring about a step by step rotation of the sleeve 20.
With the device set up for operation, as shown in Figure 1, the operator grasps the handle I arranging the support 5 horizontally or substantially so and rotates the crank handle I4. The bracket I5 being secured to the shaft I3 rotates therewith carrying the spindle I8 and sleeve 20 therewith. During the rotation of the bracket I5 as specified the lever 24 is caused to rock on it's pivot by the cam 9 imparting a rocking motion to the lever 28 which through the dog 3D brings about rotation of the sleeve 20 on the spindle I8 in a step by step movement. Thus it will be seen that a very efficient and practical device of a port- -f able nature has been provided whereby material taken from a skein can be efficiently wound on a core with slippage and entanglement of the material entirely obviated.
WhileI have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made `without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a reeling device, a portable support, a shaft journaled in said support, means for the rotation of said shaft, a bracket secured to the shaft, a spindle secured to said bracket and supported thereby to cross axis of rotation of said shaft at an inclination to said shaft, a sleeve journ aled on said spindle, a core removably secured to said sleeve for the Winding of material thereon, and means for rotatng said sleeve in a step by step movement about said spindle during the movement of the latter with the bracket about the axis of rotation of the shaft.
2. In a reeling device, a portable support, a shaft-'journaled in said support, means for rotating said shaft manually, a bracket secured to said shaft and including angularly relatedv portions, a spindle secured to one of said portions and supported at an inclination and crossing the axis of rotation of said shaft, a sleeve journaled on said spindle, a core removably secured to said sleeve with the axis of rotation of said shaft bisecting the core diagonally thereof, means for guiding material onto said core, and means for rotating said sleeve about said spindle in a step by step movement during the movement of the latter with the bracket about the axis of rotation of the shaft.
3. In a reeling device, a portable support, D. shaft journaled in said support, means for rotating said shaft manually, a bracket secured to said shaft and including angularly related portions, a spindle secured to one of said portions Y and supported at an inclination and crossing the axis of rotation of said shaft, a sleeve iournaled *on said spindle, a core removably secured to said sleeve lwith the axis of rotation of said shaft bisecting the core diagonally thereof, means for guiding material onto said core, a cam fixed to said support, a lever pivoted on the bracket and having a bifurcated end .engaging the cam, a second lever j ournaled on said bracket and connected with the first named lever, a spring type ldog carried by the second lever, a ratchet gear formed on the sleeve and engaged by said dog, a pivoted gravity actuated dog carried by said bracket and engageable with the ratchet gear to prevent rotation thereof during the ratcheting of the ilrst dog relative to the ratchet gear.
4. In a reeling device, a portable support including a panel body and a handle, a sleeve secured to the body, a shaft journaled in said sleeve, a cam formed on said sleeve, a bracket secured to the shaft and including angularly related porf tions, a spindle secured to one of said portions and supported thereby at an inclination crossing the axis of rotation of the shaft, a sleeve journaled on the spindle, a ratchet gear secured to said sleeve.
a core removably secured to said sleeve on which material is to be wound, a, lever pivoted to said bracket and engaging the cam, a second lever pivoted on the bracket and operated by the first named lever, a dog carried by the second lever and engaging the ratchet gear, a second dog pivoted on the bracket and engaging the ratchet gear, a bracket secured to said sleeve, and a coil type guide for the material carried by the second named bracket and arranged at right angles vto theaxis of rotation of the shaft and adjacent the core.
