Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONI ISKY, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
EXTENSION-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent Np. 23,469, dated April 5, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it kno-wn that I, ANTHONI IsKY, of the city of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Device for Constructing Extension-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a perspective view of the table, with its one side partly extended, the dotted lines showing the course of the pendant leaf C, (hinged to the frame Gr, and legs E,) to form the continued top of the table, when brought over on the pivoted cross slats, F. Fig.` 2, a descriptive view of the underside. The firmly united frame H, H', to the stationary legs D, its central partition I, on the one side, showing the slats when closed; on the other, the extension in part of the same, with the movable frame Gr, and legs E, to each. Fig. 3, shows how the leaves C, B, are hinged, partly drawn apart to show the notch M, fitting under the cross piece or frame H. Fig. 4, shows the position of the double leaves, C, B, when the table is closed.
The extension is effected by means of a series of cross slats, F, centrally attached on each side of the partition I, internally under the top, A, moving on pivots, at each intersection, parallel to one another, and, externally ailixed to the movable legs, E, and cross piece at Gr, passing through a slot in the table frame H', between the permanent legs D, and top of the table A. When the table is closed as seen in Fig. 4, the extension ismade by raising the Wing or leaf B, drawing out the wing C, and legs E, which fit in `40 and under the frame H', and turning the leaf or wing C, from its pendant position half round' onto the top of the cross-slats F,` and pressing the edges of C, against those of B, so that the point or points K, enter and lock into a corresponding catch, (or spring bolts may be employed, as also additional bolts beneath the wings B, and C, if deemed needful.)
The illust-rations plainly show the operation, which for its simplicity and cheapness, and great utility in hotels or large families, makes it a desirable article of household furniture, admitting of any degree of extension and may be 'so extended that adjustable 55 extra pieces may be inserted between the attached wings (j, and B, in an emergency.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the plvoted cross- Y F, when extended, as also the adjustment and combination of the several parts'herein described and for the purpose specified.
ANTHONI ISKY.
