Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY GROSS, OI*` TIFFIN, OHIO.
EXTENSION-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 18,636, dated November 17, 1857.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY GROSS, of Tiffin, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Extension-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, forming part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of folding extension tables with two systems of hinged stretehers movable in opposite directions, and connected by stay rods as hereinafter to be set forth.
In the drawing L L are the legs connected by cross pieces A, and having the frame B C, the pieces C forming the end of the table when Closed.
E E and D D are the two systems of stretchers, hinged to cross pieoes B and D', as shown in the drawing; one system at the extremities of the said pieces and the other in the middle thereof.
The two systems of stretehers are oonneeted by the stay rods a a, running from the angle on one side of the lower system to the opposite angle of the upper system. These stay rods are embraced by a loop e to prevent lateral separation.
In operation, the table may be extended as desired, and will be perfectly braced in every position. This advantage is due to the upper system of stretchers E and the nesses.
HENRY GROSS. Witnesses:
N. REDD, WALTER BUNTING.
