' SAFETY CATCH FOR BAR PINS AND THE LIKE Filed March 6, 1943 INVENTOR A'GNt'S M. L4 PA GL/A ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 18, 1944 SAFETY CATCH FOR BAR PINS AND THE LIKE Agnes M. La Paglia, Livingston, N. J.
Application March 6, 1943, Serial No. 478,211
1 Claim.
This invention relates to safety catches for bar pins and the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a highly improved safety catch for a bar pin, or the like, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, smooth and positive in operation and yet practical and efficient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claim.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one of the various possible illustrative em bodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a bar pin with safety catch embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view thereof;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is an end view of the structure shown in Fig.3;
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a piece of solder prepared stock from which the piece of the safety catch which is soldered to the bar, is made; and
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 3 and illustrating a modified construction.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, IIl designates a bar pin provided with a safety catch I I embodying the invention. The bar pin I comprises a bar of plate or ornamental memat one side of said piece and communicable With' said part cylindrical opening. Piece I may be made from a piece of solder prepared stock I5a which has solder I8 incorporated into a surface thereof.
Rotatably mounted on member I5 i a mem- A1; one end of wall or portion 2| is an end wall 23 having a pair of spaced fingers 24 forming a slot 25 therebetween extending to the center of wall 23. The inner ends of wall 2| is riveted or turned out to keep member 29 from coming out. Fingers 24 serve as a handle for rotating member 20. The pin enters the hollow cavity in member I2. Fig. 5 shows the locked position of the safety catch. To open it handle fingers 24 are rotated to bring slots 22 and 25 in register with opening or slot I I.
In Fig. 7 is shown a safety catch Ila similar to catch II except that end wall 23 has a larger slot 25a similar to slot 25, so as to permit the pin I4 to pass therethrough.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter her in set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A bar pin comprising a plate, a hinge thereon, a pin hinged thereto, a safety catch for said pin comprising a member soldered to said plate and formed with a part cylindrical opening, and a constricted opening communicating therewith, a member rotatable on said first member including a part cylindrical wall having a slot received in said part cylindrical opening, an end Wall at one end of said part cylindrical wall formed with outwardly extending spaced fingers forming a slot therebetween extending to the center of said end wall and communicating with the slot in said part cylindrical wall, the other end of said part cylindrical wall being riveted over the first member at the inner end of the latter to prevent said second member from coming out of said first member. said pin passing through the slot in said end Wall.
