1 Claim.

This invention relates to sterilizers and more particularly to sterilizers designed for sterilizing facial tissue in continuous or web form.

An important object of the invention is to provide a sterilizer of this character including a cabinet embodying a sterilizing chamber in which suitable sterilizing chemicals are placed, the chemicals being heated to generate vapor for accomplishing the p pose of the invention, as the facial tissue is being moved through the sterilizing chamber.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet having a removable cover of a construction to be readily removed, giving ample space to permit the chemicals to be placed in the sterilizing chamber, and to permit the paper which is moved through the sterilizing chamber, to be properly positioned over the feed rolls of the cabinet.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing:

Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view through a sterilizing cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the body portion or main section of the cabinet, which is box-like in formation, the bottom thereof being provided with a recessed portion extending throughout the width thereof, the ends of the recessed portion being closed by the side walls of the body portion or main section 5, as clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawing. This recessed .portion provides a compartment for the burner 6 which may be of the gaseous fuel burning type.

As clearly shown by Figure 1 of the drawing, upwardly inclined walls 1 are provided, and extend from the inner edge of the recessed portion of the body portion 5, to points adjacent to the upper edge of the body portion. The compartment formed by the inclined walls 1 is adapted to contain suitable chemicals for accomplishing the purpose of the invention. One end of the body portion 5 is formed with a transversely disposed slot providing the entrance opening to the body .portion, the edges of the end wall adjacent to the slot being extended inwardly as at 8 providing a guide for the web under treatment, and which in the present showing is indicated by the reference character A.

A slot is provided in the opposite end of the body portion 5, and the edges of the end wall adjacent to the slot are also turned in as at 9, providing a guide for the web, as the web is passing from the body portion.

A pair of feed rolls indicated at 10 are supported within the body portion and are disposed transversely thereof, in horizontal relation with respect to each other, the rolls being supported so that their contacting edges will be disposed in direct alignment with the feed opening of the body portion.

Arranged adjacent to the outlet opening of the body portion, is a pair of rolls indicated at H,

the rolls ll being so arranged that the contacting surfaces thereof will be in direct alignment with the slot or outlet opening of the body portion.

Supported within the body portion and arranged in spaced relation with respect to each other, are horizontal rolls 12 over which the web moves. The web also moves over the rolls l3 which are also horizontally disposed, the rolls l3 being supported near the inclined walls 1, at points between adjacent rolls l2, so that the rolls l2 and I3 are supported in staggered relation with respect to each other.

Supported within the body portion at a point adjacent to the entrance end thereof, are spaced horizontal pipes I4 which extend through one wall of the body portion, the pipes having openings through which sterilizing vapors from the supply tank I5 are discharged against the web A.

It might be further stated that the cover, which is indicated :by the reference character I6, is constructed in such a way that it may be readily and easily removed or positioned over the upper edge of the main section of the body portion, with the result that when the cover is removed, the entire upper portion of the body portion is open to permit the chemicals to be readily positioned in the sterilizing chamber.

In the use of the device, in addition to the sterilizing vapors which are directed against the web, by the pipes M, the chemicals which are positioned in the sterilizing chamber formed by inclined walls 1, are heated. The vapors rising from the chemicals will contact with the facial tissue strip or web passing through the machine, after it has been treated by the vapors passing from the pipes l4, sterilizing the facial tissue strip or web as it is being pulled through the cabinet.

What is claimed is:

A cabinet for sterilizing facial tissue in web form, comprising a body having end walls formed with openings, a recessed bottom providing a burner compartment, a: burner in the compartment adapted to heat the contents of the body,

upwardly inclined walls connecting the bottomwith the end walls, pairs of feed rolls disposed within the body adjacent to the openings, an up-- per row of horizontal rolls mounted. within. the 16 body, one of said rolls being disposed directly above the burner compartment, a pair of lower rolls disposed directly over the upwardly inclined Walls, at points substantially intermediate the ends of the inclined walls, the web under treatment adapted to pass over the upper rolls, and under said lower rolls whereby the length of the web which may :be exposed at any given moment to the: action of heat from the burner is increased, andmeans for spraying material onto the upper and lower surfaces of the web, moving through the body shortly after the web enters the body.
