Description

H. MIETH SAFETY ERASER Feb. s, 1944.
Filed Aug. 20, 1943 .LCCCCEL Patented Feb. 8, 1944 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAFETY ERASER Herman Mieth, Louisville, Ky.
Application August 20, 1943, Serial No. 499,309
(`Cl. 1Z0-36) `The invention relates to improvements in a 1 Claim.
safety eraser in which a pencil-formed tube contains an adjustable holding-rod Whose front end forms a pointed wood-screw, which can be diminished or extended in length and on which any size or shaped rubber eraser, whole or in part, ne or rough, may be rmly fastened; and the objects of my improvement are; first, a handy eraser that is adapted to iine or rough erasing, in point or breadth, in light or deep color, and where the eraser itself can be quickly changed.
I attain these objects by mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- One form of the invention is shown in which Fig. 1, is a plan view of the safety-eraser with a side view of the eraser; Figs. 2 and 3 show the device of the invention in longitudinal section.
The eraser l is firmly held by a pointed woodscrew 2, the screw being securely fastened to the front of the rod 3, which is supported in the rearcenter of the tube 4 by a round and firmly fastened screw-nut 5. In the front of the tube 4 the holder 3 is supported by a perforated Washer l; the screw 2 projecting through the serrated front 8 of the tube 4. The rear of the rod 3 extends from the tube 4 suitably long and with the end containing a burnisher 9 knurled for convenience in handling as the rod 3 is adjustable to being extended or diminished by the rodscrew 6.
While I have described a specific construction and application embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that changes in the material used for the parts, in their co-action, and details of construction, may be made to different requirements, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
I am aware that prior to my invention era-sers have been solidly fixed in ferruled pencils. I therefore do not claim such a device; but I claim:
The combination of a. safety eraser, consisting of a tube whose front end is serrated, said tube having a threaded nut firmly xed in the rear center and a perforated Washer firmly fixed in the front center, a movable rod enclosed in said tube with a wood-screw on the front end for inserting in the eraser, the middle of said rod being threaded to engage with the threaded nut and Whose front end is movably sustained by the perforated Washer.
