ApplicationOct'oberfl, laiopseiiai die itian-4,1 1 l v @11 Claims- (or; 16 9 i This invention relates generally to presses and more particularly to pressing mechanisms of the,
manually operable type adapted for generaluse in machine shops and manufacturing institu' tions. f- I am familiar with conventional types of manually operable presses which have, been available forgeneral shop use. Inthisvconnection 'I refer, for example, to ,press esflkn'own aszarbor presses whichhave'been in common use for many years. These conventional presses with which I am familiar present certain disadvantagesand inconveniences, particularly in connection with precision work, which the present invention con:
templates overcoming. Thus, ion example, the
present invention conteinplatesja press which is more durable incohstructionarid themoving parts of which are moreaccurate inftravelthan conventional presses with which j' I, am familiar and which may be very economicallyproduced by the practice of conventional machineshop' methods. M
More specifically, the invention contemplates a general utility press. adapted for .use for press: l u .t itn and a second boss 14 pos tionedto:
ing operations where accuracy is not of par. ticular importance and at fthe same time adapted to be used for precision ,work.-[ That is to say, the construction of .the press contemplated by the present invention is such that while the device may be employed for general pressing, operations it has the distinct advantage of being (capable-for use in precision die work; Certain forming dies require precision accuracy while others permit of wider tolerance limits. Another object of the present invention is to provide a pressing mechanismlof the type set forth above wherein improved means is' provided in' association with a vertically shiftable pressing element for securing said element againstilateral misalignment 1' a i It' is a further object otsthe present invention to provide a pressing device, asabove set "forth", which is conveniently portable and very compact aswell as sturdy in constructiomthe constituent elements thereof being relatively few in number and simple inform. 1 i A still further object of the present' invention is to provide a pressing mechanism for general shop use which is equipped with improved-pram tical features'of 'adjustment to accbrnmodatethe a a s, W1 .b m mf npar nt' mi e 9 lowing detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawingswherein:---- 1 i n Fig. Us a perspective view of ,a press or mech: anism embodying features-contemplated by the present invention; 1 i Fig. 2-is a vertical-centralsectionalview of the devicetakensubstantially along the line 2--2 .;l; Fig;:3 is a horizontal transverse sectional view takensubstantiallyalongthe line 3--3 oiFig. 2; Fig. 4 is a horizontal transverse sectional view taken j substantially along the line 4-4 ofli'igl 2; 1 Fig.; 5;is; a, front ,elevational yiew of the press;
1 Fig. 6 is afragmentaryyerticalsectional view similar to the sectional view of- Fig. 2- disclosing thevertically shiftable-pressing element or memher in its lowermost position. -Referringanow: tothe drawings 7 wherein like numerals have been employed-to designate similar parts throughout thevarious figures, it will be seen, that my invention contemplates apress haying a base-JD havin -lacentralboss [2 ex tending upwardly therefrom and formed integral ward-the rear-of the base and joinedto the boss 12 by a,connecting web HZ.- A work receiving portion or-surface l8 traverses theupper side of the base 10 at the front thereof and is provided with .suitable threaded apertures to receive worksecuring screws (not shown) and an un-i threadedcentra'l aperture 22 particularly designed to receive such elements as the shank-of a die, member or the like... cooperatively arranged with respect to the aperture .22 Visa clamping or set screw which is designedto be tightened against the element received within the la 'erture n. ,I
