This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a molded cigarette case.
More specically, the invention proposes the construction of a molded cigarette case characterized by a strip of flexible sheet material slightly wider than the package of cigarettes or the like article, and a molded sheet of flexible material having a front wall and side walls at the sides and bottom for holding the package of cigarettes, and also having outwardly directed flanged portions resting upon the face of the strip of flexible sheet material to be attached thereto for joining pieces of exible materialto form a unit thereof.
Still further it is proposed to extend a strip across the molded sheet of material and provide the strip of flexible sheet material with an extended top portion in the nature of a ap to be engaged beneath the center portion of the strap to close the open top of the cigarette case.
Still further it is proposed to provide a stiff U-shaped frame mounted in the bottom of the hollow c-f the molded sheet and which has its ends connected with the side Walls of the molded sheet in a manner to shape the case and add rigidity thereto to prevent the package of cigarettes contained therein from being crushed while the case is in ones pocket.
A further object of the invention proposes a novel means for permitting the attachment of the ends of the U-shaped frame with the side Walls of the case to be adjusted to compensate for stretching of the leather material from which the case is formed in a manner so that the case will always be extended to a position in which the cigarette package within the case will be pro- Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Fig, 1.

Fig.A 9 is an enlarged sectional View of a portion of Fig. 8.

The molded cigarette case, according to this invention, comprises a strip of exible sheet material I0 which is slightly wider than the package of cigarettesv or like article. A molded sheet II of iiexible material is formed with a front wall I2 and side walls I3 at the sides and bottom which extend rearwards to the face of the strip of flexible sheet material I0. The sidewalls I3 continue into outwardly extended Vflanges I4 which rest upon the front and side edge portions of the strip of flexible sheet material I0.
A strap I5 is extended across the face of the molded sheet II and has its ends adjacent the sides of the flanges I4. Lines of stitches I5 secure together the flange portions I4, the edge portions of the strip of flexible sheet material I0, and the ends of the'strapV I5 forming an integral unit of these parts. The strip of exible sheet material has an extended top portion I1 in the nature of a ap which is adapted to be bent across the open top of the case and be engaged beneath the strap I 5, as shown in Fig. 1, for closing the open top of the case.
It is proposed that the molded sheet II be shaped in a press by the application of pressure and heat. Details of the press for forming this vmolded sheet are not shown on the drawing-as 'tom of the hollow of the molded sheet I2'.
YMeans is provided for releasably connecting the top of the arms of the U-shaped frame with the adjacent side walls I3 of the molded sheet II. This means comprises small outwardly extended projections I9 formed on the ends of the U- shaped frame i8 and which are releasably engageable with complementary openings 2i) formed in the side walls i3 beneath the strap I5. The
U-shaped frame I3 is applied to the interior of the cigarette case for the purpose of shaping the same and to give the side walls thereof stiffness to prevent the package of cigarettes engaged therein from being crushed while in ones pocket. In other respects, this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
In the modication of the invention shown in Figs. 8-10 the construction of the cigarette case is similar to that shown in Figs. 4 7, except for the provision of means whereby the attachment of the ends of the U-shaped frame I8 with the sides of the cigarette case may be. adjusted. to compensate for stretching of the material from which the cigarette case is made.
In this form of the invention small angle members 2l are attached in position between the adjacent faces of the flange lll and the strip of flexible sheet material lil. These angle members I2 at their ends are provided with a plurality of openings 22 through which the stitches H3 are adapted to pass for securely locking the angle members in position. The other arms of the angle members 2l extend alo-ng the inside face of the side walls I3 and are provided with superimposed openings Z with which the projections IS of the U-shaped frame may be selectively engaged to adjust the position of the frame I8 with relation to the interior case. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
It is to be understood that this arrangement may be used in connection with leather, imitation leather and with any suitable pliable material, such as double coated textile material.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
