However, whena-the; breech-boltl is free of the receiverI and associatedgparts',v as is shown inFigs. 5 to,-'7linclusive,the bolt-.operating handle $5 willbe retained against axial displacel ment by the extensionof thelower'portion of'Y y the firing-plunger gthrough the ring-pin-receiving notch 61 intheupperface of the shankj 64 of thef'saidizhandle VE55.' .Shouldit bedesired-to is only* necessaryv c now toV withdrawY fthe firing- .40 ating handle 65 will permit thevbreech-closing l spring Bi to vmove the-breech-bolt into its breecho closing position to insert a cartridge into the ring-chamber of the ilrearm land to leave the firing-plunger 3B held in Vits rearmost or cocke position by the sear. d0. r
As the breech-bolt I4 reaches substantially its breech-,closing Vposition the disconnecting-cam 48 thereof will move into `position to permit the transmitting-member 45 to rockin a clockwise direction and thereby again position the upper end ofthe body-'portion 44 of the said transmit-1 ting-member into position to engage with the actuating-abutment 4'3 of the sear 40 when the trigger 53 is pulled.V The firearm is now in position forring which may be accomplished bypulling the trigger 53.`
SinceV the rearm shown is of the automatic type the pulling, of the trigger 53 and the consequent release of the iiring-plunger 3S will dis-V charge the firearm and the recoil developed byv the just-fired cartridge will kick back, so to speak,
thehreech-bolt I. and the parts carried thereby and thusV automatically effect the same series lof operations as was described in connection with the manual retraction ofthe said breech-bolt.
It will be seen from the foregoing, that the4 Vinterfitting of portions of the firearm-structure with the retaining notches S8 and 'FB of the boltoperating handle65 will serve to hold the latter inV place against axial displacement while the `breech-bolt is in place in the receiver. I9.
Should it be desired for any reason to remove.
the breech-bolt I 4 `and the parts carried thereby from the receiver I0, it is rstnecessary to remove 'plung'er rearwardly-from thesaidbreech-bolt Y Y I whereupon the said bolt-operating handle will be freed for withdrawal from the handle-receiving pocket 63 in the said breech-bolt.
The invention may be carried out in other specic .ways than those herein set forth-,without Vdeparting from thespirit and essential characteristics of the invention, and the present embodimentsare, therefore, tobe considered inall respects as illustrative andv not restrictive, and' all changes coming withinthe meaning and equivalenoy range of the appendedclaims are intended' to be embraced therein.
