GEORGE A. SCHMIDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 233,287, dated October 12, 1880.
Application filed September 9, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE A. SCHMIDT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Beater, of which the following is a specification.-
The object of this invention is to provide a more effective and durable device designed especially for use by confectioners, bakers, hotels, &c., when a number of eggs are to be beaten at a time.
The invention consists of two heaters, one revolving in a vertical, and one in a horizontal, plane, supported by a suitable standard and operated simultaneously by suitable gearing, each beater being composed of series or groups of rings of different sizes.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in position, with the containing-vessel in section. Fig. 2 is an end view of the vertically-revolving beater. Fig. 3 is an end view of the horizontally-revolving beater. Fig. 4. is a crosssection on line a: m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents a bed-plate, and B an upright standard firmly secured thereto, provided with a vertical slot, at, in which is fitted the lower end of one arm, I), of the frame 0, which is of the shape of an inverted U, and B is a thumb-screw, entered through a side of the standard B, to hold said frame O and its attachments at whatever elevation it may be adjusted to. A drivingshaft, D, is passed at right angles through the arm I), and has secured on its outer end a crank-wheel, E, and on its inner end a bevelwheel, F.
Depending from the center of the frame 0 is a shaft, G, that is held in a vertical plane by passing through a journal-box, H, in the end of an arm, I, which extends inward at right angles from the arm b of the frame 0. The shaft Bis further secured in place by a collar, K, that encircles said shaft G just above the box H, and is there held by a set-screw, c, or other suitable device, and said shaft G has secured on it, below the box H, by a set- (No model.)
screw, 61, or other convenient device, a bevel- Wheel, L.
On the upper end of the shaft G is secured a bevel-wheel, M, that gears into the wheel F of the driving-shaft D, and on the lower end of said shaft G are secured, by a collar,
f, having radial lugs g g, radial groups, h h, of rings, preferably metallic, each group It consisting of two or more rings of different diameters, set a little apart from each other, as shown.
On the lower end of the arm I) of the frame G, and at right angles thereto, is formed a journal-box, N, that affords a bearing for a horizontal shaft, 0, which is held in place by a collar and set-screw, k I, respectively, at the outer end of said journal box N, and by a bevel-wheel, P, which is held by set-screw m, or other convenient device on the inner end of said shaft 0, and which wheel I? gears with the wheel L of the shaft G.
On the outer end of the shaft 0 is secured a collar, 40, provided with radiallugs 0 0, each of which carries a radial group, p, of three or more rings of different diameters, the rings in each group 19 being set so as to spread apart from each other, as shown.
In operating this device it is desi ned to introduce the ring-groups h 10 into a vessel, S, containing the eggs and other articles to be operated upon, as shown, and then said ringgroups h p are rapidly revolved, the first in a horizontal plane and the last in a vertical plane, by application of power to the crank-wheel E, and during the operation of the device the ringgroups h constantly force the material or materials operated upon within reach of the ringgroups 10, so that a constant circulation of the material or materials is maintained within the vessel S, and every portion thereof is operated upon at whatever velocity said ring-groups h p are revolved. When the work is accomplished the thumb-screw B is slackened and the frame 0, with its attachments, is lifted from the vessel Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 5 out- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, an eggbeater constructed substantially as herein shown and described, consisting of fra me 0, driving shaft and wheel D E, bevel-Wheels 5 F L M P, shafts G O, horizontally-revolving ring-groups h, and vertically-revolving ringgroups 1), arranged as herein set, forth.
2. In an egg-beater, the combination, with the vertically revolving ring groups p p, of the horizontally-revolving ring-groups h h,subno stantially as herein shown, and for the purpose described.
GEORGE A. SCHMIDT. Witnesses:
