UNITED STATES PATENT orrion.
WILLIAM H. ,ASHBY, OF BOONE, IOWA.
HEATER AND MIXER.
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM H. ASHBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boone, in the county of Boone and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beaters and Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has for its objects to provide a simple, convenient and efficient means especially adapted to be manually operated for whipping eggs and for beating and mixing different ingredients, as required for thoroughly uniting them for confectioners and other purposes.
lVith these and other ends in View, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawings,Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention.- Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the same.
Corresponding parts in both figures of the drawing are denoted by like characters of reference.
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates a tubular stand having a broad base, and 12 is a box adapted for inclosing gearing, said box being detachably fixed on top of the stand by means of flanges and bolts, as shown in any suitable way. The box is offset to one side of the stand, as clearly shown. The stand and box may vary in size as desired.
A tubular shaft 13 is'mounted for rotation in the top of the box 12, said shaft having at its lower end a bevel gear 14 and at its upper end a flange 15 adapted to support a vessel 16 detachably placed hereon. The vessel 16 has an open-ended tube 17 at its center, and it is provided with a removable cover 18.
A rotatable shaft 19 extends through the tubular shaft 13, said shaft being stepped at its lower end in a bearing in the bottom of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 27, 1909.
Patented May 24:, 1910. Serial No. 480,492.
the box 12; upon the shaft 19 adjacent to its lower end is secured a bevel gear 20 facing and mating the bevel gear 14.
An open-ended tube 21 is fixed in one of the side walls of the'box 12, said tube constituting a bearing for a rotatable shaft 22 which extends therethrough, said shaft having at its inner end a gear wheel 23 meshing with the bevel gears 14 and 20 and at its outer end a crank 24 whereby it may be rotated for the purpose of simultaneously rotating the tubular shaft 18 and the shaft 19 in reverse directions. The top of the shaft 19 is non-circular, and a skeleton stirrer 25 is provided with a flanged bearing member 26 to exteriorly engage the tubular shaft 19 and to support the stirrer above the bottom of the receptacle 10; at its upper end the stirrer is provided with a non-circular bearing member 27 to engage the correspondingly shaped upper end of the shaft 19 with which the stirrer may thus be detachably connected for rotation therewith within the vessel and in a reverse direction from that in which the vessel is rotated.
WVhen eggs, paste or any kind of liquid, powder, granulated, or various other substances are placed in the vessel, and the machine is then operated, it is obvious that such matter and substances will be thoroughly whipped, beaten and mixed. It will also be seen that the vessel and the stirrer can be jointly lifted from the machine and be carried about to facilitate placing in and taking out of the vessel ingredients to be beaten or mixed, and the stirrer and vessel may then be separated and washed when necessary. By offsetting the box 12 or locating it to one side of the stand, as shown in the drawings, the crank 24: will be readily accessible to the operator who may thus stand at one side of the machine while turning the crank.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
I11 a device of the character described, a stand having a broad base, a box mounted detachably upon the stand and offset to one side thereof, said box constituting a gear casing, a tubular shaft supported for rotation in the top of'the box and having a bevel gear at its lower end and a flange at its upper end, a shaft having a non-circular upper end extending through the tubular shaft and stepped for rotation in the bottom of the box, said shaft having a bevel geai adjacent to its lower end, a bearing tube extending through a side wall of the box, a shaft supported for rotation in said bearing tube and having at its inner end a bevel gear meshing with the berel gears upon the shafts within the boX and at its outer end a crank, a receptacle supported upon the flange at the upper end of the tubular shaft and having an open-ended tube rising from the bottom thereof a skeleton stirrer having a flanged bearing member exteriorly engaging the tubular shaft and resting upon the bottom of the receptacle and a non-circular bearing member engaging the non-circular end of the shaft extending through the tubular shaft, and a detachable cover for the reeeptacle.
