Application June 24, 1943, Serial No. 492,097
4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clamps for wire, cable and other provide a wire puller clamp of the character stated which is of extremely simple construction and of low cost to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional View taken on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a section taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a bottom plan view of the movable Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the clamp consists of an elongated plate or wall 5 having a ledge-like formation 1 along a portion of its lower edge and this defines a stationary jaw. The top of this jaw I is curved transversely as at 8 so that a wire or cable 9 can readily engage therein.
One end of the wall 5 is slightly reduced and provided with a lateral formation It] in which a slot H is formed and through this slot an elongated curved bar I2 is disposed, the outer end having a puller line receiving opening l3, while the inner end is pivotally connected as at l4 to a bellcrank l5 rockable on a fulcrum member l6 Which is driven into the wall 5. I The lower end of the bellcrank i5 is pivotally secured as at H to one ear 18 of an elongated movable jaw member IS. A fulcrum 20 supports a link 2| which is pivotally secured as at 22 to a second ear 23 on the jaw IS. The jaw l9 overlies the stationary jaw l aforedescribed.
It is preferable that the intermediate lower portion of the jaw l9. be removed as at 24 to leave contact area 25, 25 which are preferably corrugated, knurled or otherwise roughened for engagement with the wire or cable 9. a
It can thus be seen, that when a pull is exerted on the bar [2, the bellcrank 15 will be rocked so that the lower leg thereof will be swung downwardly in the direction of th stationary jaw l and this action carries the movable jaw l9 downwardly against a cable, wire or other structure 9 located on the stationary jaw l, and the more pull exerted on the bar [2, the more pressure will result in the clamping action between the jaw l9 and theelement 9.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that various changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: i
1. A clamp of the character described comprising a plate having a stationary jaw thereon. a rocker on the plate, a swingable arm on the plate, a movable jaw bridging the rocker and the swingable member, said movable jaw being opposed to the stationary jaw, and means for actuating the rocker.
2. A clamp of the character described comprising a plate having a stationary jaw thereon, a rocker onthe plate, a swingable arm on the plate, a movable jaw bridging the rocker and the swingable member, said movable jaw being opposed to the stationary jaw, and means for actuating the rocker, said means for actuating the rocker consisting of an elongated arcuate-snaped bar, and a slotted flange on one end of the plate through which the bar is slidable.
3. A clamp of the character described comprising a plate having a stationary jaw thereon, a rocker on the plate, a swingable arm on the plate, a movable jaw bridging the rockerand the swingable member, said movable jaw being opposedto the stationary jaw, and means for actuating the rocker, said rocker being in the form of a bellcrank having one end pivotally secured to the.
movable jaw, said means for actuating the rocker consisting of an elongated bar, a guide on the plate for the bar, said bar at one end being secured to the remaining end of the bellcrankr 4. A clamp of the character described comprising a plate having a stationary jaw thereon, a rocker on the plate, a swingable arm on the plate, a movable jaw bridging the rocker and the swingable member, said movable jaw being opposed to the stationary jaw, and means for actuating the rocker, the opposed faces of the jaws being transversely grooved.
