The pins are'preferably fixedly secured-to the lugs by suitable means, such as the setscrews 41.
The construction is such that the clamp for coupling the cable to a door member or leaf is toggle operated, the links 39 and 43 forming the toggle; It will be noted that the pivot pin 42 occupies a position with its axis above the line connecting-the axes of the pivot pins 38 and t5 when the; reach rod N has been moved to its uppermostposition to move the grip-member to clamping position. As a result, the operating mechanism i's'locked from accidental disengagement. 1
For the purpose-of normallylimiting the-movement' of the grip member away from the grip portion so that the cable cannot become accidently disengaged from the clamp, the link 33 has the upright flange 48 which is normally engageable with the edge of the top wall 23 when the grip member is moved away from the grip portion.
However, to enable initial engagement of the cable with the clamp, or to enable its replacement, if desired, the link 33 may be permitted to lower by releasing the nuts on the bolts 31 sufficiently to allow the flange 43 to clear the top wall 23 and pass therebeneath. To enable the lowering ofthe link and also to enable operating the linkage, the bottom Wall 24 is formed with a central slot or opening.
For the purpose of relieving the bolts 3': from shearing stress and also more, positively positioning the grip member 28' longitudinally upon the link 33, a shim or a plurality of shims &9 may be placed between the adjacent end of the grip member and the upright flange of the link these shims preferably having depending, projections 59, at their ends for extending at the outer sides of the base of the link'33 so that accidental endwise-disengagement is avoided.
The reach rod ll extends through the hole 5| formed at the lower end of the plate 2%) and is pivotally connected at its'lower end to the lever 52 intermediate the ends of the latter. Thelever is floatingly mounted upon the bracket, it being pivotally connectedintermediate its ends to the lower end of the I link 53, the upper end or which is pivotally connected to the lower end of the bracket. The distance between the pivot connecting the reach rod to the lever? and the adjacent end of 1 the lever is preferably the same as the distance between the pivgct connecting" the floating, link to the lever and the adjacent-lend of the lever. To enable an operator on the floor to operate th'e'clamp', the'ends of the leverliz have secured'thereto the linear members 54, which are preferably tiller ropes, andthese linear members are provided at theirlowerends with the handles 55 which may bereadilygraspedbythe operator on the floor. The tiller" ropes are preferably guided on the inside of the door member or leaf by the keepers To support the lowerportions l5 of the cable so that they will extend substantiall uniformly in a horizontal direction, there are th supporting rollers 5Twhich areyielda-bly held' upwardly against the lower portions intermediate their ends; Each supporting roller is rotatably'mounted upon abracket 58 which is fixedly secured to an end of the spring leaf 59', the oppositeend of which may be' fixed1y secured to a head flangeof one of the T beams- I; or to the plate It. To avoid interference with a door member or leaf during its movement, th transverse part 21 of each bracket is formed at its free end with the downwardly extending guide portion 68 engagemember being eooperable with said grip portion to grip the linear member, a link pivotally mounted on said bracket, a reach rod, and a sec- 0nd link pivotally connected at its opposite ends to said grip member and reach rod and intermediate its ends to Said first mentioned link, the pivotal connection intermediate the ends of said second link being movable from one side to the 1 other of the line between the pivotal mounting for said first mentioned link and the pivotal con- 1 nection to said gripmember.
2. In a device for detachably gripping a. linear j member, a bracket having a grip portion engageable with the linear member, a grip member movable relative to said bracket and engageabie with the linear member, said grip member being cooperable with said grip portion to grip the linear member, and means carried, by said bracket for operating said grip member, said means comprisinga reach rod guided by said bracket and operatively connected to said grip member, and a lever carried by said bracket and pivotally connected intermediate its ends to said reach rod.
3. In a device for detachably gripping a linear,
member, a supporting member having a grip portion engageable with the linear member, a grip member mounted on and movable relative to said supporting member toward and away from said grip portion and engageable with the linear mem ber, amember for moving said grip member promeans carried by said supporting member for operating said moving member.
