invention relates to a four wheel railway car truck and more specifically to a novel methodof resiliently maintaining the relative position of the parts thereof. p
In recent types of four wheel spring plankless trucks guide surfaces are provided on the ends of the bolster to engage guide surfaces on the side framestfor the purpose of maintaining the .proper' running position of the parts of the truck as a whole. While this type of truck has been found satisfactory, nevertheless, a certain amount of chafing or wear may occur between the guide surfaces and an arrangement to substantially eliminate all such chafing would be an improvement and this I have accomplished in my novel rem of truck.
An object of my invention is to'afford a novel rdraftlconnection between each side frame and the adjacent end of the bolster in such manner as substantially, to eliminate all chafing between the end of the bolster and the associated sideframe.
My novel arrangement comprehends a form of connection between the projecting end of the bolster and a remote point of the associated side frame with a degree of rigidity which reduces to a minimum the playofthe bolster end in the bolster opening of the side frame.
My novel connection is through resilient means jvvhich eliminatesf metalto-metal contact and greatly reduces wear of adjacent parts and the concomitant noises resulting from such wear. In my novel form of side frame, it is'practical to eliminate the column guide lugs which normally engage the outboard face of the side frame columns,but I have retained the inboard guide lugs.
In addition tothe above-mentioned features, my novel arrangement is so designed as to accommodate the quick wheel change feature which is highly desirable under present conditions where rapid wheel change is necessary'in order to accommod-ate the present rapid freight train schedules.
Specifically, my novel truck comprises a rigid rod and tube connection resiliently connectedbetween the projecting end of..the bolster and a bracket integrally formed on the outboardjface of, the side frame adjacent the journal box at one end of said frame. Such a draft rod may be associated with" each side frame at diagonally'opposite ends of the truck for-opposite sides thereof, thus assuring adequate ah-gmng means for the truck as a whole while, at the same time,

In a spring plankless four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending therebetween with ends projecting through said openings, lateral brackets on the outboard faces of said frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, and a connection between the bracket and the projecting bolster end at each side of the truck, each of said connections comprising rigid means extending between said bracket and bolster end, resilient members interposed between the rigid means and bracket and between the rigid means and bolster end, and means for adjustably compressing said resilient members.
10. In a spring plankless four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending therebetween with ends projecting through said openings, lateral brackets on the outboard faces of said frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, and a connection between the bracket and the projecting bolster end at each side of the truck, said connection comprising a rigid member extending between the bracket and the bolster end, resilient pads interposed between the respective ends of said rigid member and the bracket and bolster end, and adjustable means for compressing said pads.
11. In a spring plankless four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending .therebetween with ends projecting, through said :openings, lateral brackets on the outboard :faces of said frames at diagonally opposite cor,-
ners of the truck, a connection between ,the bracket a'ndthe projecting bolster end ateach side of the truck, said connection-comprising a rigid bar interposed between thebolster end and said bracket, and means for resiliently securing said bar to said bracketand end.
12.". In a railway cartruck; a truss sideframe having a bolster opening, resilient means on said frame in said opening, abolster end supported on said means, and a rigid bar tying said end to saidframe, said bar being resiliently connected to-said end and to the outboard face of said frame, and said bar being substantially the sole means preventingdisassembly of the bolster by excessive inboard movement thereof with respect to said frame.
13. In a spring plankless four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced truss type side frames having bolster openings, spring groups at the bottom of said openings, a bolster seated on said spring groups with ends projecting outboard said openings, brackets on the outboard faces of said side frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, and rigid means resiliently connected between the bracket and bolster end at each side of the truck.

In a four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending between said frames with ends projecting through said openings, brackets on the outboard faces of said side frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, draft rods connected between said brackets and the projecting ends of the bolster, respectively, and adjustable means to accommodate positioning of said bolster ends centrally within the associated bolster openings.
15. In a four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending between said frames with ends projecting through said openings, brackets on the outboard faces of said side frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, and draft rods resiliently connected between said brackets and the projecting ends of the bolster, respectively.
16. In a four wheel railway car truck of quick wheel change type, spaced side frames having bolster openings, a bolster extending between said frames with ends projecting through said openings, brackets on the outboard faces of said side frames at diagonally opposite corners of the truck, and compression bars resiliently connected between said brackets and the adjacent projecting bolster ends at respective sides of the truck.
17.
