The packaging and shipping of 'cartridges and also various fragile articles has presented for a long time veryserious problems in preventing accidents occurring during shipment which might cause loss or damage. According to the present invention, a carton is formed from la single blank which is provided with receiving portions for snugly and securely retaining a plurality of articles packaged in a single carton so that they will be securely retained in position and will not come in contact with each other i during shipment lthereby.preventing damage or explosion of cartridges or 'breakage of fragile articles which may be packaged in the carton.

A sustaining panel 28 is hingedly connected to the article-retaining panel I5 alongscore line I6. Panel 28 is adhesively securedto the rear Y panel 20 Aas illustrated in Figure 2. Side panel 2| is hingedly connected to the rear panel 20 along score line 2. .The closure ilap 32 is hingedly connected to the lower edge of panel 2| along lustrating the ilrst step in setting same up. and

Referring to the drawings, the carton is made from a single blank of cardboard or other suitthev inner face of the rear panel in the relation V able sheet material cut and scored as shown in .I
Figure 1 to provide a rear panel 20, a front panel 22, a bottom panel 30 and side panels 2| and 23. A glue panel 29 is hingedly connected torear y panel 20 along score line I. A cover 24 is hinged- 1y connected A.to upper edge\of rear'wall 20 along score line, II. An auxiliary bottom panel is score line 8, Closure flap 32 is preferably cut at one-edge along a beveled line I0. The closure flap is separated from the adjacent panel along a cut and score line 9.' The bottom panel 30 is hingedly connected to the lower edge of the front panel 22 along a score line 6. A tongue 'portion 33 hinged along score line 1 at the lower edge of the bottom panel 31| is provided for locking the bottom panel into positionwhen the carton is set up. The bottom'panel 30 is sepa-` rated frorn the adjacent end iviap 3 I along a score line 30'. The second side panel 23 is ,hingedly connected to the front panel 22 along score line l. The closure iiap -3I is-'hingedly connected to the lower edge of the panel 23 along A score line 5. Closure flap 3| is cut away at an inclined line 3|. y.
In forming the carton from the blank previouslydescribed, the front auxiliary panel 26 is folded along score line 26 against the body portion ofthe carton and the retaining panel 28 is ,folded back along score `.line I6 and glued to as indicated in Figure 2. 'I'he glue panel 29 is then adhesively attached to an overlapping edge portion of the side panel 23 in the position shown in Figure 3. The carton in this fiat condition, as illustrated in Figure 3, is then ready f or shipy ment to the user.

This automatically bringsthe front auxiliary panel 26 at right anglesto the bottom wall25 and at the same time bringsthe article-retaining panel 21 into a plane parallel with the bottom panel 25 as shown in Figure 2. Tongue 33v of the. bottom panel 30 is then, inserted in slit vll'wherehyl the bottom panel 30 i's securely locked and'retained in position.l The articles to be packaged in the carton are then placedin the cut-out portions l5 and the cover 24 is. then adhesively attached to the front'cover by means of a piece of `tape 50 or by bottom` 4any other suitablemeans. litdesired, the cover 24 maybe provided with end aps or lockingy portionsin any known suitablenanner instead of utilizing the tape for sealing the carton.
According to the present fconstructionthe articles packaged in this Jcarton are-securely retained in position. The positioning ofcthe bottom auxiliary panel 25 in' face )contact with the bottom panel 3|! reinforcestlie bottom of the carton and it will'threreiore safely sustain heavy y articles placed therein. Similarly, the lower portion of' the front panel 22 -is reinforced by virtue of the frontl auxiliary panel 26 being in face contact therewith, This' construction thus provides -a very rigid and strong construction for packaging articles. v v
It is intended to include modifications and changes ofthe speciiic embodiment previously described which embody the essential features of the invention within the scope of the appended claims. y
We claim;
1. A collapsible carton made from a single blank comprising a front, rear, bottom, and side panels, and an article supporting extension integrally hinged to the bottom edge of the rear ing dimensions substantially that of the horizontal cross-sectional dimensions of the carton, a front auxiliary panel, an article-retaining panel having the same dimensions as the bottom panel extending from the front to the rear panel and a sustaining panel adhered to the rear panel, all
said panels being integrally hinged alongsuitably spaced fold lines, said bottom auxiliary panel beingadapted to be positioned in face contact with the inner face of the said bottom panel, s'aid front auxiliary panel being adapted to be positioned in face contact with the inner face of the said frontwall, said carton being adapted to be set up :for
use Vby folding said bottom auxiliary panel atright angles to the said rear panel.
2. A collapsible carton made from a single blank comprising a front, rear, bottom, and side panels, and an article supporting extension integrally hinged to the bottom edge of th'e rear panel having the same dimensions as the bottom panel and a sustaining panel adhered tothe rear panel,

A collapsible cartony made from a single blank comprising a front, rear, bottom, and side panels, a glue panel hingedly connected to the rear panel and adhesively secured to an overlapping portion of the adjacent `side panel, and an article supporting extension integrally hinged to the bottom edge of the rear panel consisting of a bottom auxiliary panel having dimensions substantially that of the horizontal cross-sectional dimensions of the carton, a front auxiliary panel, an article-retaining" panel having the same dimensions as thel bottom panel and a sustaining 5.
