Description

same, as will be apparent.
landoutwardly projecting ribs 33.
latter ends being cut to provide protruding .l
Cil
tongues 28 which facilitate the placement of theV ends Within the corner reinforcements 20 dis` l posedA adjacent the ends l5, as will appear inv Fig.- 1 of the drawing, so that in the resulting frame, the short ends I5 become invisible externally'of the frame.
Theinner ends of the flanges and |2"are spaced apart to form the channel. opening 29, and in assembling theframe parts ,and 25, one or more panels are arran-ged in the channels 2B inthe manner. clearly seen'in Fig. 3 of the drawing. For purposes of illustration, three panels or 'sheets 3,0, 3|, and 32are shown. The sheet is preferably ofl transparent material, such for example as glass, Cellophane, and other types of plastics; and the sheet 3| is preferably inthe form ofa printed or lithographed sheet,
and may be of the embossed type, if desired, and is employed to give ornamentation or other characteristics tothe upper surface of the tray which Yis not shown in Fig. 1 in order tosimplify the illustration. In some instances where a plain color is desired, aplain velvety orfsimilar fabric y canbe used, and if desired, an ornamental fabric sheet of any typeandl kind can be emp1oyed,`
the latterbeingused in more expensive types of trays.
The sheet V32 forms-a backing and reinforcement sheet,:-and may be composed of cardboard,
composition board, wood, metal, or any other mal terial, again depending uponl the type of, tray which isvto b e constructed. fIt lwill be understood lthat the panel or mainjbody portion of the tray will fit snuglyl between. the flanges andv |2 and probablyrequire slight pressure in forcing the panel in position sothat the panel will become firm and rigidswithin the frameA of the tray andpreferably extend to the outer walls ofthe frame, or to apointrclosely adjacent the After the various parts of thetray `have been assembled, the flange portions 22,` 23 of the corner reinforcements may be compressed slightly uponthe flanges and I2 to retain the Yframeparts 25, 26, against separation. Y. A v Y In lorder to simplify the illustration in Figs. 1,
2,'and S'of the drawing, the outer surface off.
the strip |l has beensho'wn plain, and while this type of. construction: canrbe, employed, it is preferredto include ribs or corrugationsin'tlfiissurface of the stripafor Vthe purpose of` characterizingv the strip,v and still further to-,give added strength and rigidity thereto. vTo illustrate one form of such reinforcement and characterization,
I have shown inFig. 6 of the drawing a section 'Y and-partly perspective View of astrip from which it will be seen that the outer surface of the strip isv provided with three longitudinally extending drawing,
corner` portions of the framepartsV and extending f disposed walls at vsaid4 rounding of the edges, rather than a sharp bending, also gives the representation of a substantially heavy frame on the tray. It will also be understood that the intervening sheet 3| of the panel forms a cushioning agent which will in effect tensionally support all of the panels 3U, 3|,
and 32 in position within the channel openings s 29, in addition to the spring-like engagementof Y the anges and |2 therewith.
InV considering lthe structure as described, and aside from the parti-cular type or kindof panelling employed, the entire` tray is composed of three similar parts; one, the channeled strip;
two, the corner reinforcement; and three, theV handle member. The assemblage of these parts on one strip after the bending or forming thereposedV ofl two or more parts, such as the partsr a ower pot in spaced relation to a supporting surface, thus protecting thel surface. Y
Having fully described my invention, what I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: e `Y y vl. An article of manufacture of the class described lcomprising a panel of predetermined contour, a frarne'bordering peripheral edges ofthe panel, saidframe comprising similar frame parts collectively forming Said frame and channeled to" receive thepanel, each frame pari; having angularly extending substantially parallel coupling ends directly telescopedwith Ythe ends of a companion framepart in forming said frame, and means l,for securingv the telescoped ends Aof said partstogether to retain said frame parts against separation. Y A2. An article of manufacture of the class described :comprising avpanel of predetermined cons-V tour, a Vframevbordering peripheral edges of the panel, said frame comprising similar frame parts collectively forming said frame and channeled to receive the` panel, each frame part Ahaving angularly extending substantially Yparallel coupling ends directly telescoped with the ends of a companion frame part in forming said frame, .means for securing the telescoped endsof said parts together to retain said frameparts against.A separation, and corner reinforcements arranged on lthe adistance onto angularly corner portions.
