Description

(No Model.) I H. BROWN.
Churn Powers.
Patented Sept. 21,1880.
L 54 ATTORNEY.
" ERS, Puormumocmmsn, WASHINGTON, o c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HILRY BROWN, OF BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES C. SIMS, OF SAME PLACE.
CHURN-POWER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 232,451, dated September 21, 1880,
Application filed June 5, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HILRY BROWN, of Bowling Green, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Churn-Powers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this To specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is arepresentation of a front view of my improved churn-power, and Fig. 2 is a side view'of the same.
I 5 This invention has relation to improvements in churn-powers; and it consists in a certain novel construction of a base-ring adapted to be passed over the top end of a churn and carrying the operative mechanism, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates a metallic ring of suitable strength, to the outside of which are secured the uprights B B B, arranged at the three angles of an isosceles triangle, whereof the base is the diameter and the sides chords subtendingarcs of ninety degrees. The upper ends of the uprights B B B are connected together by a platform, (3, in which is made a perforation,
a, for the passage of the dash-rod a. The
uprights B B are additionally braced by the bar I), and the upright B is vertically slotted, as indicated at c. In this slot 0, near its upper end, is journaled a master-wheel, D, con- 5 nected by means of an endless belt, E, to a (No model.)
smaller pulley, F, secured on a crank-shaft, G, having its hearings in bar I) and extending through the slot 0 aforesaid.
The shaft G, between the uprights B, B, and B, is provided with afly-wheel, H, anda crank, 4.0 J, to which is connected a pitman, K, extending upward through a slot, 61, in the platform 0, and connected by its bent end e to the dashrod aforesaid. The master-wheel is operated by means 'of a crank, L, and through the 5 crank-shaft and pitman aforesaid conveys a vertical reciprocating motion to the rod of the churn-dash.
It will be observed that the ring may be passed over the upper end of a barrel-churn, 5o which, increasingin diameter from above downward, necessarily causes the said ring to bind and thus support the superstructure.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The churn-motor consisting of the ring A, the uprights B B B, the platform C, connecting the upper ends of the said uprights, the crank-shaft G, havingfly-wheel H and pulley F, the pulley D, endless belt E, and the pitinan K, extending up through the said platform and connected to the rod of the dasher, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HILRY BROWN.
