My invention relates to improvements in hangers for storing boots and the like in suspended position on a wall or the like.

The invention is designed with the particular objects in view of providing a simply constructed, inexpensive, wall hanger which may be easily and quickly applied to the sole of the boot to suspend the same in vertical, inverted position so that no wrinkles will develop in the boot top and air may freely circuate in the boot to dry out the same whereby, as will be apparent, the life of the material of the bootois prolonged.

Another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purpose above set forth which is adapted to suspend the boot in spaced relation to the wall so that it will not be marred by engagement with the latter.

To the accomplishment of the above, and subordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the hanger of my invention comprises a single length of resilient, heavy gauge, wire bent upon itself intermediate its ends, and including an open loop I for hooking over a suitable nail 2 driven into a wall 3, a short shank comprising a pair of straight shank stretches 4 forming sideby-side depending continuations of opposite ends of the loop I, respectively, and a pair of opposed jaw forming stretches 5 comprising depending continuations of said shank stretches, respectively, and terminating in a pair of hooklike ends 6 turned toward each other for engaging under the sole 7 of a boot 8. The jaw forming stretches 5, as will be manifest, are relatively separable to permit the insertion of the sole '1 of the boot 8 between said hook-like ends 6, and are reactive to engage said booklike ends 6 under said sole l. A slide ring 9 encircling the jaw forming stretches 5 is provided 'thereon for adjustment toward the hook-like ends 6 to oppose separation of the jaw forming stretches 5 and thereby retain said ends 6 engaged under the sole 7.

A particular feature of my invention is that the jaw forming stretches 5 are constructed and arranged to lie in a common ,plane at a right angle to the plane of the loop I to thereby span the sole 7 of the boot 8 crosswise and hold the foot of the boot disposed lengthwise along the wall 3. As best shown in Figure 4, the jaw form ing stretches 5 incline downwardly from said shank stretches 4 to one and the same side of the shank to thereby space the hook-like ends 6 away from the wall 3 and hold the boot 8 spaced from said wall.

One of the jaw forming stretches 5 is formed with a U-bend III for engaging the wall 3 to prevent the hanger from swinging toward said Wall to an extent such that the boot 8 will scrape against the latter.

If desired, the shank stretches 4 may be soldered together as represented at l I.

In the use of the described hanger, the hooklike ends 6 are engaged under the sole 1 adjacent the heel l2 of the boot 8 with the boot inverted, whereby said boot is held in vertical balanced position as will be clear.

The foregoing will, it is believed, suifice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.

Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claims.

What I claim is:

1. A hanger for a boot comprising a single length of resilient heavy gauge wire bent upon itself intermediate its ends and including an open loop for hooking over a nail in a wall, a short shank comprising a pair of straight shank stretches forming side-by-side depending continuations of opposite ends of the loop, respectively, and a pair of opposed jaw forming stretches comprising depending continuations of said shank stretches, respectively, and terminating in a pair of hook-like ends turned toward each other for engaging under the sole of a boot, said jaw forming stretches being relatively separable to permit insertion of the sole of the boot between the same, and reactive to engage said hook-like ends under said sole, and a slide ring encircling said jaw forming stretches to oppose relative separation of the same and thereby retain said hook-like ends engaged under said sole.

A hanger for a boot comprising a single length of resilient heavy gauge wire bent upon itself intermediate its ends and including an open loop for hooking over a nail in a wall, a short shank comprising a pair of straight shank stretches forming side-by-side depending continuations of opposite ends of the loop, respectively, and a pair of opposed jaw forming stretches comprising depending continuations of said shank stretches, respectively, and terminating in a pair of hook-like ends turned toward each other for engaging under the sole of a boot, said jaw forming stretches being relatively separable to permit insertion of the sole of the boot between the same, and reactive to engage said hook-like ends under said sole, and a slide ring encircling said jaw forming stretches to oppose relative separation of the same and thereby retain said hook-like ends engaged under said sole, said jaw forming stretches being constructed and arranged to lie in a common plane at a right angle to the plane of said loop to span the sole of said boot crosswise and hold the foot of the boot disposed lengthwise along said wall.

3. A hanger for a boot comprising a single length of resilient heavy gauge wire bent upon itself intermediate its ends and including an open loop for hooking over a nail in a wall, a short shank comprising a pair of straight shank stretches forming side-by-side depending continuations of opposite ends of the loop, respectively, and a pair of opposed jaw forming stretches comprising depending continuations of said shank stretches, respectively, and terminating in a pair of hook-like ends turned toward each other for engaging under the sole of a boot, said jaw forming stretches being relatively separable to permit insertion of the sole of the boot between the same, and reactive to engage said hook-like ends under said sole, and a slide ring encircling said jaw forming stretches to oppose relative separation of the same and thereby retain said hook-like ends engaged under said sole, said jaw forming stretches being constructed and arranged to lie in a common plane in a right angle to the plane of said loop to span the sole of said boot crosswise and hold the foot of the boot disposed lengthwise along said wall, one of said jaw forming stretches having a U bend therein for engaging the wall to prevent the hanger from swinging toward the wall and thereby maintain the hook-like ends and boot spaced from said wall.
