Our invention relates toe-edge tools, and vhas "among its objects and advantages the provision of animp'roved scissors Sharpener.,
`In the accompanying drawing: l
Figure l is aside elevational view of my invention;
l Figure 2f is an end view;
Figure 4 is a sectional view along the line `4f-4in1? Figure'l; land Figure 5 is an end view illustrating a scissors blade in position in the Sharpener. 'In the embodiment selected for illustration,
'we make use of a metallic strap bent to provide a frame comprising a base I0, an'end wall I2 'i and atop wall I4. The top wall I4 is arrangedin parallelism with the base VIl) and is intercon- -nected therewith through the medium of a diagonal wall I6, a wall I8 paralleling the base II), and
a narrow end wall 20. One end of the strap is vWelded at 22 to the top wall I4, which wall is ex",- Ytended to provide a prong 24 which serves as a of .a file 30,-with the slots so located as to bring Figure 1 illustion, with the edge 34 to be sharpened lying on the file 30 and held at the proper anglev by the 'wall IB, the latter being preferably arranged at an angle of seventy degrees to the base Ill, Means :for pressing the blade 32 against the wall I6 to support the blade at thedesired angle comprises v.the end face 42 of the block 36 and thewall I2.
This spring is held in place by a bolt y44 threaded into the block and extending loosely through an opening 46 in theend wall I2.I The bottom face 48 ofthe block 36 rests on'the base I0, and the block is provided with a groove 50 for loosely receiving the file 30. In Figure 3, the wall I4 is shaped in the nature of a dovetail in cross section for loose reception in a correspondingly shaped groove 52.
Projections 54 are provided on the block 36, which projections are grooved, as at 56 in Figure l, to facilitate a convenient grasp thereon. In operation, the base Ill may be placed on a table and supported in a stationary manner by grasplng the handle 26 in one hand and manipulating 'mannen the scissors With the other. The projections 54 are arranged suiiiciently close to the handle -26 to lbe accessible by the thumb and forenger of the hand grasping the handle, as when shifting the block to accommodate placement of the blade.
vTwo plates 58 are attached to the block 36 and extend loosely through slots 6U in the end wall I2. These plates provide enclosures for the spring 40, in addition to restraining the block from lateral displacement. The sides of the block 36 are recessed at B2 for receiving the extensions `64 so as to bring the plates within the side limits ofthe end Wall. Screws 66 secure the plates to the block. y l
v While the device may be manually supported in a fixed position, the extension provided by the wall I8 permits a clamp to be applied thereto if it-is desired to fixedly secure the device in that The le 30 is removable and may be shifted from time to time to distribute wear thereon.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully illustrate my invention, that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service.
