5 Claims.
lThis invention is an improvement to a combined inventory and price 'tag holder Patent No. 2,204,767, which relates to tag holders and more particularly to a tag holder adapted'to be kmounted on a shelf in a store. One object of the invention is to provide a tag holder of such construction that it may be mounted against the front edge face of a shelf in front of merchandise on the shelf and prominently display tags which indicate the price of the merchandise.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tag holder which will not only carry tags bearing the price of the merchandise but also carry tags bearing the name of the merchandise. f Another object of the invention is to provide a tag holder which will not only hold tags in lposition to be seen by a customer or clerk but also carry a tray or box in which inventory record slips are kept for a permanent record of cost price, selling price, and sales of the particular item that may be priced and named on tag. y
-ect of the invention is to provide a tag holder so formed that a tray or box holding inventory record slips that may be withdrawn without disturbing tags applied to the holder. ...Another object of the invention is to provide a tag holder formed of sheet metal and capable of being very easily mounted at the front edge of a shelf.
Another object of the invention is to provide a -tag holder having members extending rearwardly from a front plate constituting a backing plate for price tags, the rearwardlyv extending members also serving as carriers for a tray disposed back of the front plate and closed by this plate `when in normal position.
. i Another .object of the invention is to provide a tag holder wherein an auxiliary holder for car- -rying tags bearing the names of merchandise is removably mounted back of a, traycarrying a supply of tags and holds the tray against the rear face of a plate against which price tags are mounted.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tag holder having rearwardly extending tray supporting portions which are formed with flanges or equivalent members for engaging flanges of a mounting plate xed to a shelf and slidably mounting the tag holder for movement into and out of engagement with the mounting plate.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a front elevation showing a tag holder of the improved construction mounted against the front edge face of a shelf.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved tag holder.
' Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a modified form of tag holder.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the mounting plate or bracket carrying the holder shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the form of tag holder shown in Fig. 4.
The improved tag holder shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3 is formed of sheet metal, and referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the blank from which the holder is formed is bent to provide a body or backing plate I having lips or flanges 2 and 3 along its upper and lower edges. These lips are in slight forward spaced relation to the backing plate so that price cards 4 may be fitted into place against the backing plate with the lips overlapping upper and lower ends of the tags and firmly but removably holding the tags in place. The lips or flanges 2 and 3 are of double thickness and, after forming these lips, the blank is bent to form jaws 5 and 6 which project rearwardly from the plate l for gripping upper and lower surfaces of a shelf l and removably mounting the tag holder in position against the front edge face of the shelf. The upper jaw is flat from the plate I to its rear end but the portion of the blank forming the jaw 6 is initially of greater length than the jaw 5 and is bent to form a trough-shaped portion 8 having a rear wall 9 from which the jaw B projects. In spaced relation toits rear end, the jaw 6 is bent to form an upwardly extending portion Ill from which the shelf engaging portion or lip Il of the jaw extends. Since the blank is resilient sheet metal, the jaws will frictionally grip the shelf and firmly hold the tag holder in position.
To carry a supply of inventory record slips, there has been provided a tray or receptacle which is also formed of sheet metal. This tray extends horizontally with its open side presented forwardly and is slidably supported in the trough 8. Normally, the tray is in retracted position back of the plate l which serves as a closure for the tray and holds the inventory record slips within the tray. By applying pressure to one end of the tray, it may be shifted longitudinally out of the trough and either partially or entirely removed from the trough. Inventory record slips may be added or removed from the tray as they are required and the tray returned to retracted position back of plate I.
An auxiliary holder I3 is mounted over the jaw 5. This tag holder is preferably of slightly less length than the main tag holder and has an upper flange I4 and end flanges I5 for overlapping marginal portions of tags IB bearing the names of merchandise placed on the shelves. A supporting tongue or strip Il extends downwardly from the body portion of the auxiliary tag holder and passes through a slot I8 formed in the jaw 5, in such position that the tongue bears against the rear surface of the tray and has its lower end portion engaged in the trough 8 and bears against the front surface of the rear Wall 9 thereof. This strip has flat contacting engagement with the front edge face of the shelf where it is gripped between the shelf and the tray and frictionally held in place. It should also be noted that when the tag holder is removed from the shelf, the strip constitutes a backing strip for the tray and holds the tray in upright position with its open front pressed against and closed by the plate I of the main tagholder.
In Figs. 4, and 6, there has been shown a modified form of tag holder. In this embodiment of the invention, there is a main tag holder I9 formed from a sheet metal blank bent to form upper and lower flanges 23 and 2I of double thickness. After forming the anges 2li and 2|,
the blank is extended rearwardly to form extensions 22 and 23 having flanges 24 and l25 extending therefrom. The flanges Y2li and 25 are then `bent to form lips or tongues 26 and `2'! for engaging in troughs 28 and 29 formed along upper and lower edges of a mounting strip or bracket 30 secured against the front edge face of a shelf 3| by nails 32. 'Ihebracketv has its lower portion 33 curved forwardly .so lthat the tag holdei` will be disposed at an inclinea,s shown in Fig. 4, when Yapplied to .the bracket Vand tags 34 carried by the holder disposed at such 'an` angle that they can be easily read by a-customer or clerk looking at the tag holder. Since the tag holder is formed of resilient metal, the lips or tongues 26 and 2'! form jaws for gripping a'tray 35 and frictionally'holding the tray in place back of the front plate of the tag holder; This tray serves as a container'for inventory" record slips and when the tray is in normal Aretracted position back of the front plate, its'open front will be closed by the front plate of the tag holder. linventory record slips will thus be stored ina convenient receptacle and may be easily inserted or removed when the tray is shifted longitudinally tothe extended position shown in Fig. 6,
keeping a permanent record of mechandise re- 'ceived and sold during a given time, also the cost `claimed is:
