1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in flush tanks and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character embodyin a novel construction and arrangement whereby the dripping of condensation therefrom to the floor or other surfaces will be prevented.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a dripless flush tank of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a view in front elevation of a flush tank constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in vertical section.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the drip pan.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a body I of suitable material and capacity. Depending from the body I is a substantially hopper-shaped, integral bottom 2. The bottom 2 is merged gradually with the body I by a curved connecting portion-3. The construction is such that there are no acute angles or corners.
The flush tank is connected by an angular discharge pipe 4 with a conventional toilet bowl (not shown). Toward this end, one end portion of the pipe 5 extends into the bottom 2 of the flush tank through a circular opening 5 which is provided therefor in the lowermost portion of the tank. This end portion of the pipe 5 terminates in a substantially conical flange or shoulder 6 which is adapted to seat in the correspondingly shaped lowermost portion of the flush tank. A nut 1 is threaded on this end portion of the pipe 4 and engages beneath the flush tank for securing said pipe in position therein.
Mounted on the pipe 4 beneath the nut 1 is a substantially frusto-conical drip pan 8 of suitable material. A nut 9 is threaded on the pipe 4 and secures the drip pan 8 in position in conjunction with the nut 1. As illustrated to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawings, the walls of the drip pan 8 are spaced from the bottom portion of the flush tank.
Depending from the drip pan 8 is a nipple or the like ID. A vertical pipe or tube ll connects the nipple ID to the horizontal lower portion 12 of the flush pipe 4.
It is thought that the manner in which the device functions will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, any condensation or other moisture forming on the flush tank drips by gravity down the substantially hopper-shaped bottom portion 2 thereof where it is received by the pan 8. The absence of acute angles or corners prevents the moisture from accumulating at any place on the tank and falling therefrom in drops before gravitating to the pan 8.
From the pan 8 the moisture flows by gravity through the nipple l0 and the pipe H into the horizontal lower portion l2 of the flush pipe 4.
It is believed that the many advantages of a flush tank constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A flush tank comprising a substantially conical bottom having an opening in its lower portion, a flush pipe engaged in the opening and including, on one end portion, a substantially conical external flange seated in said bottom, retaining nuts threaded on the pipe beneath the bottom of the tank, a drip pan mounted on the pipe between the nuts, said pan encircling the pipe, and a drain conduit connecting said pan to the flush pipe.
