2 Claims.

This invention relates to a strap lock of the type adapted for use in connecting a pair of cooperating straps or the like and rendering the connection adjustable. Such strap means are commonly used on kits, knapsacks and similar articles, but it is obvious that a strap lock is adapted for a wide variety of uses.

An object of the invention is to provide such a strap lock which is non-slipping and self-locking, and which may be adjusted in a fraction of time.

Another object is the provision of such a lock which requires no metal parts.

Another object is to provide a strap lock formed of a minimum of parts and adapted for low cost and eilicient manufacture.

These and other objects are attained by the means disclosed herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. l is a plan View of the strap lock of the present invention having portions of cooperating straps associated therewith.

Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the strap lock of this invention with the insertible end portion of a cooperating strap shown in position for initial insertion.

The device of this invention comprises a base 5, preferably formed of a section of leather and provided in one portion thereof with a pair of transverse slots 6 and 1 in parallel alignment.

A top member 8 is secured upon the base 5 as by suitable stitching 9 adjacent one end. This same stitching may be utilized for securing the end of a supporting strap IU between the base 5 and top member 8, as seen in Fig. 2. Additional stitching I5, Fig. 2, may also be used for securing strap I to base 8. It will be observed that the top member 8 overlies the unapertured part of the base and extends down to the slot 'l of the base.

The topy member 8 has a transverse slot I I similar to and aligned with the slot 6 and 1 of the base. This slot I I, it will be noted, is formed in the free portion of the top member.

The end of the second strap I2 is adapted to be introduced into the slots described for adjustably connecting this strap with the supporting strap IIJ. This is accomplished by rst inserting the end of the strap I2 downwardly through the lower slot 6 of the base, upwardly through the slot 'I of the base and .then upwardly through the slot II of the top member. Thereafter the strap I2 is reversed and the end passed through the slot 'I of the `base and nally outwardly of the slot I of the base. This is the position of the strap I2v as seen in Figs. 1 and 2.

It will be seen, especially in Fig. 2,4 that the turn of the strap I2 at the slot II of the top member is effected across the lower edge of the said slot which is therefore engaged with considerable frictional force and resistance against slippage. In addition to this, the lower edge of the top member 8 is gripped by the doubled-over portion of the strap I2, and is carried into contact against .the lower edge of the slot 1 at the ends thereof as indicated at I3 and I4, Fig. 1. The tight squeezing together of the several parts just referred to, when weight or stress is placed on the body of Athe strap I2, results in a very effective binding of the strap into non-slipping relationship. The lock, however, is instantaneously released by simply pushing upwardly on the end of the strap I2.

Modifications will suggest themselves upon consideration of the present disclosure, but such variations are believed to be comprised within the spirit and scope of the invention.

What is claimed is:

1. A strap lock comprising a base provided with an intermediate slot and with a slot adjacent a rst end of the base, means adjacent a second end of the base for attaching the base rto the end of a strap, and a top member secured adjacent one end to `the second end portion of the base, said top member adjacent its free end being provided with a slot, the free end of 'the top member extending substantially to the intermediate slot of the base.

2. A strap lock comprising a base provided with an intermediate slot and with a slot adjacent a rst end of the base, and a top member secured adjacent one end to the second end portion of the base, said top member adjacent its free end being provided with a slot, the free end of the top member extending substantially to the intermediate slot of the Ibase, the strap lock adjacent the connected end portions of the base and top member being adapted to be secured to the end of a strap.
