Description

O. SIMUN DS April 27, 1943.
10E CREEPER Filed Nov. '7, 1941 V 'car '5i-manda,
INVENTOR.
Patented Apr. 27, 1943 UNITED STATES 1 Claim.
This invention relates to devices known as ice creepers, and aims to provide a device in the form of a sandal having ice-gripping prongs, which may be readily and easily positioned over the sole of a shoe and strapped in position, to insure the wear against slipping, when walking on icy surfaces.
An important object of the invention is to provide a sandal of this character which embodies two main elements, each of which may be formed by a single operation of a metal stamping machine, to the end that the cost of production is reduced to a minimum.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sandal or ice creeper which may vbe worn on practically any type of shoe, regardless of the shape of the heel of the shoe.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the vcombination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a creeper or ice sandal, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom View thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the solevA portion of the sandal is indicated by the reference chaacter 5, the sole portion being constructed of suitable sheet metal material, of a width to provide a substantial support for the toe portion of the sandal indicated at 6.
The rear end of the sole portion is bent upon itself providing a wide opening for the reception of the strap S which is shown as secured within the opening by means of rivets S.
The toe portion S, also comprises a length of sheet metal material having slits Ii), providing prongs I I which are formed by bending portions of the toe portion 6 outwardly.
At the ends of the toe portion, are upstanding flanges l2 that are adjusted to lie opposite to the side edges of the sole of the shoe of the wearer. The forward ends of the iianges as well as the forward end of the toe portion, curve inwardly to conform to the shape of the tapered toe portion of a shoe. These flanges act to prevent shifting of the shoe within the sandal while 1n use.
The reference character i3 designates the toe strap of the sandal and has its ends secured to the upstanding anges I2, by means of rivets I4. This toe strap is of a width and size to permit the average toe portion of a shoe, to ybe positioned thereunder.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the .construction shown and described, the type Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
An ice creeper comprising a body portion including a main plate adapted to t against the sole of the shoe of the wearer, a transversely disposed toe plate secured to the forward end of the main plate, the ends of the toe plate extending beyond the side edegs of the main plate and being formed with slits extending inwardly from the outer edges thereof, the portions of the toe plat-e between the slits being extended upwardly providing shoe sole engaging members, the portions of the toe plate beyond the slits being extended downwardly providing prongs, a toe strap secured to the toe plate` and a strap secured to the rear end of the main plate for securing the Creeper on the shoe of the wearer.
