Description
UNITED STATES FFIGE- JOHN COLLINS, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
srnorrrcarrou forming part of Letters meant no. 231,540, dated August 24., 1880.
Application filed July 8, 1880. (No model.)
Theobjeet et 'this invention-is toiixrnisira;
1o compoundforlining gas-generators, acid-chamhers. and fountains for mineral waters,'the use of which will avoid the. expense andlabor involved in the ordinarymethod of lining said vessels. v
15 The invention consists in a composition of matter to be used for lining gas-generators, 9
- acid chambers, and fountains for mineral waters, consisting of asphaltum, benzine, and
' plumbago,'andalso in the method of lining 2o gas-generators, acid-chambers, and fouutainsf for mineral waters, which consists inapplying V to their inner surfacesa compound of asphaltum, benzine, and plumbago', as will be hereinafter fully described.
45 In carrying my invention into practical ef feet, I put any desired quantity of. powdered asphaltum into a vessel suitable for-heating, and pour over the asphaltum a sufficient quantity of deodorized benzine to reduce'the said- 3o asphaltum twa thick paste. The mixture is 7 then heated until th'e asphaltnm is fully dissolved, when powdered plumbago,'i'n the pro-. portion of pound to pound, is sprinkled upon the. mixture.The heat'is contin ued andthe 4 'ter to be used for lining gas-generators, acid benzine, and plumbago to the inner; surfaces compound thoroughly stirredfor a few minutes, when it is ready for use.
The compound is appliedwith a brush to the inner surface of the gas-generators, acidohambers, and fountains untilthe entire-inner surface is thoroughly coated. When the coat 40 has become dry I smooth and polish it by rubbing with a cloth.
With this "iini'ng t-ii'e gas and minerarw'aters" will be prevented from coming in contact with and acting upon the surface of the vessel's, 5
and at the same time the lining and the gas and mineral waterwill have no effect upon each other. 7
What I claim is 1. The hereindescribedeomposition of matchambers, and fountains for mineralwaters,
. consisting of 'asphaltum, benzine, and plum bago, in substantially the proportions spent. fied., 55 2. The method of lining gasgeneratorm'aoidchambers, and fountains for mineralwatera. substantially as herein described, which consists in applying a compound of asphaltum,
of the gas generators, acidchambers, and;- fountains, as set forth. :1 Q The above specificationof-' .my invention signed by me this 1st dayof-July, 1880.
