2 Cl m Fig. 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment of the invention as in position over the rim of a paint bucket, with the brush clip swung downward outside the bucket;
Fig. 2 is a view of the holder with the brush in drain or drip position over the bucket;
Fig. 3 is a view of the brush in tilted drain position over the bucket; V
Fig. 4 is a section on the line IV-IV, Fig. 1, showing the embracing arms for the brush handle or clip with the brush not in position therewith;
Fig. 5 is a section on the line V-V, Fig. 2, in which the embracing arms are in holding position as to the handle of the brush; and
Fig. 6 is a detail view, with parts broken away, of the wire and strap clips of this unit device for the holder.
Paint bucket having bottom I with cylindrical sides 2 is provided with ears 3 mounting bail 4. The upper portion of the sides I terminate in bead 5 with overhang 6 to opening 1. Normally, in the use of the contents there may be clearance way 8 above pool 9 of the body of the material,
as paint, varnish, or other medium of coating characteristics.
Base strap of mounting holder herein involves flat portion 10 with approximately right angle offset ll therefrom as an overhang projecting inward to downward portion 12 and inclined outward portion l3 having free end [4 normally tending to swing under the portion III. This portion l0 toward the free end 14 has an eye l5 adapted snugly to hold cross portion l6 of the spring wire from which extend a pair of legs l1, normally parallel, to hook arms l8. The spring tends to have such arms I8 overlapped to clamp region l9 enlarged by springing the legs I! toward each other as the way I9 is opened to re ceive handle 20 of brush 2|. As these legs ll are released, the spring of the legs I! tends to draw the arms Hi to reduce the opening 19 and thus grip the handle 20. This spring holding clip is thus adapted to hold the handle 20 at a range of positions therealong.
The cross portion l6 as fitting the eye 15 has slight bow therein, tending to resist to some extent free swinging or flap movements of the ,wire spring clip asto'this strap metal spring clip. In bringing the assembled device of the "strap and wire spring clips into position with a bucket, the lower freelterminus I ,4 of the strap is ,drawnaway from the ,eye 51. 5 to sh ft such ,astride the timer the bucket'and, as clear of the inwardoverhafn 6, there is ready snapping of this holder into wellanchored position as to the bucket. As so assembled the wire clip may be swung to various positions. At upright position (Fig. 2) the arms l8 are upward from the pool 9 of the bucket contents so that the brush 20, 2|, may drain directly therein. The position of the handle 20 as to the clips may be such that the fibers or brush portion 2| may be even submerged in the pool 9 against draining out. Furthermore, there may be occasion for having the brush bristles clear of the contents of the bucket for draining thereinto. Another position of convenience for the user is to have the brush laterally rest on the terminus of the inward ofiset H (Fig. 3) away from the portion IU of the strap, and in this position the legs I! are swung slightly outward from the top of the bucket. In the further supplemental position, these spring arms I! may be swung into position approximately parallel to the outer side of the bucket. This may be a condition to clear the bucket when the operator is using the brush, and this holder is thus clear of any interference with normal functioning as to clearance of the open top of the bucket. A reserve brush or one not contaminated may be carried by this wire clip or holder on the outside of the bucket so such may be the cleaning or wiping brush for the painter. Such brush may be either in upstanding or depending position of the bristles as to the handle.
This tool mounting scheme is readily adaptable to a wide range of uses. Herein there has been disclosed its adaptability as an accessory for painters. The single type tool may conform to a wide variety of buckets. Likewise, the holding clip has a range for a wide or variant character of brushes.
It is to be noted the subject-matter hereof primarily embodies a pair of clips or clamps, and such pair of elements constitutes the sum total of this unit. As to the mounting or base engagement, there is a hinge element, and the structure herein shown as a strap is a rigid support. There is thus herein provided a mounting for the swingable brush holding arms. More specifically, this mounting has a spring tongue effective in the assembly. This spring tongue in the assembly, while it might be for the strap as to the hinge, may have the strap positively assembled with the bucket rim say at the outside. In the disclosure herein there is a positive assembly of this tongue I3, [4, opposing the hinge and the inner side of the bucket with the offset ll providing the clearance at the bucket rim.
The tool or object holding clamp in this simplified device has the hinge at the eye. The pair of spring legs with the Overlapping arms may,
as shifted toward each other at the free ends 1 of the legs remote from the hinge, be thereby located in clamp opening position to grasp the object to be held, say the tool handle 20. In the event the character of the object may tend to tilt, one of the arms l8 may have an extension complementary portion l8, thereby to provide a two-point grasp for the handle 28 at one side with the opposing intermediate arm l8 therebetween.
What is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is: j
1. In a two-part holder, a mounting clamp adapted to locate the holder as a unit, and a clamp for an object to be held hinged to the mounting clamp, said mounting clamp having a pivot bearing portion for the hinge, and theregames from a strap riser, an ofiset, and a downwardly inclined spring terminus extending normally below the pivot bearing portion, whereby, as the offset clears the rim to the opening of a bucket and the bearing is drawn against the bucket side, the downward terminus may swing into position theretoward for an effective mounting clamp with the bucket for the holder.
2. In .a two-part holder, a mounting clamp adapted to locate the holder as a unit, and a clamp for an object to be held hinged to the mounting clamp, said latter clamp having spaced legs with a connecting cross portion, the mounting clamp having wrap means about the cross portion thereby to form the hinge as to which axis the respective clamps are swingable, and from said hinge said mounting clamp opposing grip portions diverging from the region of engagement for holding, and in so diverging being yieldably connected, whereby, as the diverging portions of this mounting clamp clear the rim to the opening of abucket and the hinge is thereby located at the bucket for the object holding clamp to swing on said hinge into overhanging position as to the bucket as well as away therefrom to be clear of suspending an object into the bucket.
