Description

UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
ISAC RULOFSON, OF PENN YAN, NEV YORK.
lMPRQVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 23.1 I6, dated Mnreh l, 1559.
.To all 'whom it muy` concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC RULoFsoN, of Penn Yan, in the county of Yates and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plow's; and I do hereby de- Clare that the following is-atull, clear, and ext act description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, in whichf# Figure l is a perspective View ofthe whole' plow. Fig. 2 is'an inside viewot' the landside part or standard ofthe plow. Fig. 3 is a view of the inside of the mold-board separate.
The letters ot' reference referto the sinne parts in each ligure. A, Fig. l, is the beam. The forward end may be made as represente( or in any other manner. The rear `end is made with a dovetailed Wedge-shaped piece on euch side of the beam. `These pieces are made to tit into either side ofthe standard, as represented by the drawings. i
Bis a standard. The lower part constitu tes the landside portion of the end support for the left handle.` The upper part 's made to receive the wedge-shaped pieces of the beaxn in either side. These joints may he made to rcceive thip wedges to give direction to the benin when-required. ,A bolt may be put through the center to give more firmness to the joint.
On the inside of this portion are mitered cleat-s- F F, that receive and hold the part G of the mold-board.
C is the mold-board, with nothingr peculiar on the furrow side; but on the land side is the 'part G, which is narrower at the rear end than it is 'at its union with the mold-board. It' is uiitered and made to lill the space between the cleats F F, sothat when these parts are drawn together they forni a iirni and unalterable joint and keep the plow in proper shape.
D is a landside-strip, which is ot the ordinary construction.
f E is the share, with nothing peculiar in its construction, except that it is fitted to the niold-board only.
F and F are niitered cleats, and made on and with the part'B. They hold the parts B and C firmly together.
(it is a wedge-shaped piece, mitered so as to fill up the space between the cleats F and F. This with the cleats forms the connection of the mold-board and standard.
H is a piece fitted to the upper edge oi' the niold-hoard.` It is held in place by ineans of mitered projections at itsloweredge that pass down between the cleuts l. It is niude to be taken oit or put on at pleasure when needed. lts use is to enlarge the mold-'board when plowing deep, or when the soil will fall over the mold-board without it. t l
I represents the cleats, that are on the inside and upper part/of the niold-hoard. They are'initered to hold between them the projections ot` the part H.
What ll claim, and desireVA to secure by4 Let' r ers Patent, is-
The arrangement ot' beam A, standard B, landside-strip D, share E, niold-board C, and piece H, the whole being constructed and united as and lor the purpose herein set forth.
