4 Claims. (01. 46-47) My invention relates to amusement devices, and has among its objects and advantages the provision of an improved toy.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure ,1 is a face view of the toy;
Figure 2 is an end view;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View; and
Figure 4 is a sectional view along the line 44 of Figure 3'.
In the embodiment selected for illustration, I make use of a box it within the walls l2 of which is journaled a shaft I l provided with propellers l6 closely adjacent the outer faces of the walls. These propellers are fixed to the shaft 14 and reversely twisted.
A second shaft I8 is rotatably journaled in the top wall 20 and a handle 22 having a shank 24 secured in an opening 26 in the bottom wall 28. To the upper end of the shaft I8 is secured a propeller 30.
A string 32 has one end secured to the shaft 18 and wrapped once about the shaft I 4. This line passes loosely through an opening 34 in the side wall 36 and is of such length as to extend some distance beyond the box to constitute a grip.
In operation, the line is coiled upon the shaft I 8 through rotation of the propeller 30. Some length of the line should remain uncoiled and project from the box so that a good grip may be secured on the line. After coiling, the device is supported by gripping the handle 22 in one hand and exerting a pull on the string 32, which causes the propellers l6 and 30 to rotate. One convolution of the line about the shaft I4 is sufficient to supply the necessary friction drive.
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully illustrate my invention, that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service.
I claim:
1. A toy of the type described comprising a body having a grip, two propeller shafts rotatably carried by said body at an angle to each other, and a flexible pull means attached at one end to one propeller shaft and wrapped at least once about the other propeller shaft and adapted to be coiled on the said one propeller shaft to impart rotation to the two propeller shafts when pulled to unwind from the said one propeller shaft.
2. The invention described in claim 1 wherein said propeller shafts are arranged at right angles to each other.
3. The invention described in claim 1 wherein said body is in the nature of a box enclosing the greater portions of said shafts and housing the pull line operatively connected with the propeller shafts but provided with an opening through which the pull line is threaded, and propellers attached to said propeller shafts exteriorly of the box.
4. The invention described in claim 1 wherein one propeller is attached to one propeller shaft and in which two reversely twisted propellers are attached to the second propeller shaft.
