UNITED STATESPATENT OFFICE GLOVE Edward H. Patterson, Jr., Troy, Y. Application October 25, 1941,- Serial No. 416,431 1 Claim. (Q1. 2-159) My invention more particularly relates to a openings surrounded by members cemented or glove for preventing or substantially preventing otherwise attached to the inner side of the palm slippage between the hand of a user and the arportion of both the main body of the glove and ticle that is gripped thereby. The glove embodythe iingers, serving to increase the thickness ing my invention is particularly useful for grip- 55. of the glove immediately surrounding the openping the handle of a golf club to prevent slipings, the openings serving to create vacuums page between the hand of a player and the which prevent slippage between the hand of the handle of the club. One of the principal diiiiplayerand the handle of the club.
culties encountered by a golf player is a slice Whilev the gloves illustrated in my previous or a hook which is caused by slippage beapplications provide decided improvements tween the hand of the player and the handle over the usual glove intended for gripping deof the golf club. When the head of a golf club vices such as the handle of a golf club, I nd goes through during a golf stroke, it is movthat under certain conditions and particularly ing at a high velocity and any slippage between during hot weather when the hands are sweaty, the hand and the club handle changes the dithat my present invention more positively prerection of impact of the club head with respect vents slippage as it creates double adhesion beto the ball and results in a slice or a hook tween the hand and the device that is to be either of which usually ruins the shot In gripped, particularly the handle of Ia golf club. accordance with my invention means are pro- In the present embodiment of my invention, vided for preventing or substantially preventing the palm of the glove, instead of being composed slippage between the hand of the player and of a single layer of leather, as was the case the handle of the club. While the glove emin my prior applications, is composed of two bodying my invention is particularly applicable layers cemented or otherwise secured together, for use in the game of golf, it may also be used with some of the openings extending through for gripping any device, such as the steering both layers while other openings extend through wheel of an automobile, where it is desirable the inner layer only thereby creating double adto prevent slippage between the hand of the hesion between the hand of the user and the user and the article which is gripped. handle of the golf club or other article to be My present application is a continuation in gripped.

Thie openings I4 which are oiset above referred to, the palm portions of the gloves from the openings I3 (Figs. 2 and 4) may be and the palms of the fingers are provided with square as illustrated in Fig. 2 or hexagonal as illustrated in Fig. 4, circular, or of any desired form. The supplementary openings I4 are particularly useful for preventing slippage when the hand of the user is covered with perspiration and is particularly useful for preventing slippage when the hand of the user is covered with perspiration and is particularly useful for preventing slippage between the hand of the user and the handle of a golf club.
When the hand grips the handle of a golf club, a vacuum or more properly a partial vacuum is formed in the openings I3, which prevents, or largely prevents, slippage between the hand of the user and the handle of the golf club. It will of course, be understood, that a partial vacuum is created and when I refer in the claims to a vacuum being formed, I mean a Vpartial vacuum. Additionally, vacuums are created in the openings I4 which further create adhesion between the hand of the user and handle of the club through the glove thereby creating double adhesion between the glove and the handle of the club and thereby rendering the possibility of slippage between the hand and the handle of the club practicaly negligible and practically eliminating a slice or a hookf Openings similar to those above described are also preferably provided in the palms of the ngers. I have shown at I5 an annular member surrounding one of the openings I3 in the rst nger of the glove. It
changes within the purview will be understood, however, that the annular members may be dispensed with, if desired, the ngers in which case being provided with plain openings.
Fig. 4 illustrates the supplementary openings I4A in the lining of the glove as hexagonal in form, although it will, of course be understood that they may be of any desired contour.
It will, of course, be understood that my invention is equally applicable to a full-fingered glove as shown, or to ashort lingered glove in which the ends of the fingers' and/or the thumb are cut away.
Hence, While I have described my invention in its preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the words which I have used are Words of description and not of limitation and that of the appended claims may be made without departing from the true scope and spirit of my invention in its broader aspects.
What I claim is:
A glove comprising a palm portion and a back portion said palm portion of said glove comprising two layers of material secured together and provided with first openings extending through both of said layers, said inner layer only being provided with second openings olset from said first openings.
