Description
(No Model.)
S. K. DEVEREAUX. Jewel Stand No. 230,756. Patented Aug. 3,1880.
INVENTUR,
UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
SETH K. DEVEREUX, OF CASTINE, MAINE.
JEWEL-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,756, dated August 3, 1880.
Application filed March 29, 1880. l(No model.)
To all /whom it may concern Be it known that I, SETH K. DEVEREUX, of Castille, in the county of Hancock and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Jewel-Stand, of which the following is a specifcatlon.
This invention consists of a round or oval jewel-stand, principally for ladies use, having` a concave or hollowedout top and provided with four drawers of the peculiar shape below set forth.
Two opposite drawers have parallel, or nearly parallel, sides, and are convex attheir inner ends; and the other two have sides which are parallel, or nearly so. for a portion ot' the distance back, ends at right angles to the parallel portions ofthe sides, and concave portions in each side, the curves being' such as to allow the convex portions of the. lirst two drawers to tit into the concave portions of the last two drawers. Thus the space in the central portion of the stand is utilized.
In the accompanying; drawings, in which ysimilar letters ot' reference indicate like parts.
Figure l is an elevation of a jewel-stand embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a hori- Zonta] section on line x x, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the upper portion on line y y, Fig. 2.
a and a are the upper and lower pieces ot wood in the top ofthe stand, the former being provided with the concavity c for the accommodation of cards, jewelry, 85e.
b shows theportions of the table separating` the outer portions of the drawers.
c c are opposite drawers. The front-s of the drawers are straight or coliform to the shape of the stand. The sides. e are parallel, or
nearly so. The backs c are curved, thus producing convex inner ends.
d cl are the other two opposite drawers. The fronts are similar to those in the drawers c c. The portions d of the sides are parallel, or nearly so. The rear ends, d, are straightand at right angles to the portions df, and at d" the sides are curved inwardly, making two concave portions in each drawer d.
1t will be seen that the convex portions c in the drawers c exactly fit into the concave portions df in the drawers d, each convex end illing two concave sides. The ends (1ot` the drawers meet, or nearly meet, and every inch of space in the center ot' the interior of thetable is utilized.
The drawers are provided with padded linings e for the accommodation ot' the jewelry.`
The stand may be circular or oval, and may be ornamented in any desired In anner and made ot' any size.
Having thus fully described my improvement, I do not claim that non rectangular drawers are novel, nor that drawers provided with no inner separating-partitions are new; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described circularl or oval jewelstand, provided with the top a a and the two sets ot' drawers c c and d d, of the shapes shown, and arranged, as described, to allow the convex ends of the two drawers c c to t into the concave sides of the other two drawers, d d, for the purpose set forth.
sETH K. DEVEREUX.
