This invention relates to a facing plate for cementitious blocks or the like, and it is a primary object of the invention to provide a plate of this kind having means to assure the same being effectively maintained in desired position within the mold and more particularly the mold cavity of a block making machine.
Another object of the invention is to provide a facing plate of this kind having its outer face glazed or otherwise finished and wherein the plate is provided with elements under tension to provide means to maintain the plate in proper position during the molding or forming of a block, said friction means being of a type to be adjusted into a position to facilitate shipping and storing of the plates.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved facing plate for cementitious blocks or the like whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be denitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will nofw proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a sectional view illustrating a facing plate constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and within the mold cavity of a block forming machine;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view of the assembly as illustrated in Figure 1 showing the cementitious material within the cavity;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in perspective of one end portion of the plate as herein comprised.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved facing plate comprises a substantially nat body member l of desired dimensions and conguration and which, in the present instance, has disposed over its outer or exposed face a glazed iinish 2 or such other nish as may be desired. This plate or body member I has its marginal portions defined by the inwardly disposed flanges 3 and each of the end flanges 3 has operatively engaged therewith a friction holding element E.
As herein disclosed, this holding element E is formed of a single strand of material of requisite length and gauge and which is so formed as to fingers 4, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, are each in the form of a semi-loop and the outer side members 5 of the end fingers 4 are continued a desired distance beyond the inner ends of the ngers 4 proper. The outer ends of these members 5 are formed to provide the laterally and outwardly directed spring coils 6. These coils 6 are continued by the straight arms l terminating in the outwardly and perpendicularly related straight arms 8. The arms l are disposed through the suitably positioned eyelets 9 associated with an end flange 3 with the arms 8l in contact with the inner or rear surface of the member l. 'Ihe coils E serve to constantly urge the fingers 4 of the element E outwardly so that the same will have tight frictional contact with the adjacent wall of a mold cavity to assure the facing plate being effectively maintained in proper position in the molding of a block.
The elements E, however, can be readily swung inwardly to overlie the plate or body member I so as to facilitate shipping or storage of the plate, and which instantly spring into Working position when a plate is taken out of a shipping package or the like.
It is believed to be apparent from the foregoing that my facing plate as herein embodied will be properly held within the cavity of a block making machine or the like rwhile the cementitious aggref gate is being dumped in. A further advantage resulting from my improved block resides in the fact that no guides need be fixed on the block making machine or other accessories provided on the machine for maintaining the plate in position. It is also believed to be obvious that my improved plate can be quickly placed within the cavity.
It is to be stated that my facing plate is particularly advantageous for use in connection with machines for forming hollow blocks although I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself in this respect.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a facing plate constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and used, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood asylimitingV myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in provide a plurality of contacting fingers 4. These practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
l. As a new article of manufacture, a facing plate for blocks molded from plastic material, and means carried by the plate for frictionally engaging the walls of the mold cavity for holding the plate in required position during the molding operation.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a facing plate for a block molded from plastic material, said plate having marginal flanges, and resilient members carried by said flanges to frictionally engage walls of the mold cavity in :which the block i is formed.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a facing plate for a block molded from plastic material, said plate having marginal anges, and resilient members carried by said anges to frictionally engage walls of the mold cavity in which the CLAYTON B. VOEGE.
