6 Olaims.
The present invention relates to a fixture to be utilized in connection with displaying and dispensing narrow fabrics and it particularly relates toa counter or store fixture which may be applied on the usual type of partition store counter to enable dispensation of ribbon or other similar narrow fabric.
It is among the objects of the present invention to provide an improved dispensing fixture for ribbon and other narrow fabrics which may be utilized with the ordinary type of glass partitioned counter and. which will serve to protect the ribbons from dirt and dust and at the same time permit ready dispensation and inspection thereof.
Another object is to provide an improved counter and dispensing device for ribbons and other narrow fabrics which may be inexpensively manufactured and which may be readily utilized in connection with the usual type of glass partitioned chain store counter.
- Other objects will be obvious or will appear during the course of the following specification.
In accomplishing the above objects, it has been found most satisfactory to provide a molded or formed square rectangular box-like container, which may, if desirable, be provided with a cover. The box-like container receives a spool or reel of ribbon and is provided with a slot adjacent one of its comers through which the ribbon may be withdrawn for display or dispensing purposes.
The box may preferably be molded of a black plastic material, such as a synthetic resin or cellulose compound and among the preferred materials are molded cellulose acetate, molded phenol formaldehyde or urea formaldehyde resins, molded-casein, and so forth.
In one embodiment, the rectangular structure is provided with a cover which is designed to snap into position and it is provided with hand holes enabling the cover to be removed.
Both the cover and the rectangular base are provided with central integral spikes or mounts upon which the spools may be placed and. the interior of the box is designed to receive a partition. This partition will cause placement of the ribbon adjacent the slots through which the ribbon may be passed out of the box.
If desired, the box may be utilized with a cover with its open portion closed by the bottom of the counter in which case a suitable split sleeve may be employed to cooperate with the central pivot mount of the box to hold the spool in suitable position thereon.
Referring to the drawings which show several of the various possible embodiments of the present invention but to which the present invention is by no means restricted since many changes or alterations could be made all within the scope of the present invention.
Figure 1 is a top perspective view of the box or container for the narrow fabric with portions of the top and side broken away more clearly to show the interior construction.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figures 3 and 4 are respectively fragmentary transverse sectional views upon the lines 33 and 4-4 of Figure 1 upon a somewhat enlarged scale as compared to Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a top perspective view showing how the containers of Figure 1 may be located in a glass partitioned counter.
Figures 6 and '7 illustrate use of the container to receive and dispense two spools or reels of narrow fabric or ribbon, Figure 6 being a top perspective view with portions of the cover and side of the box being broken away to more clearly show the construction and Figure 7 being a cross sectional view upon the line of Figure 6, and
Figures 8 to 10 illustrate another embodiment without a cover, Figure 8 being a top perspective view, Figure 9 being a side sectional View upon the line 9-9 of Figure 9 and Figure 10 being a separated fragmentary perspective view showing the spindle construction.
Referring to Figure 1, a box A is provided with a cover B, the box includes a spool or reel of ribbon or narrow fabric C and a support or partition member D. The box A, B, shown in Figures 1 to 4 may be placed in compartments E formed by the partitions F on the counter structure G.
As best shown in Figures 1 and 2, the box A has a base [0, side walls ll, l2, and I3 and I4.
The base is provided with an upstanding integral pin l6 and, the walls are provided with the interior lugs or pilasters I! which may support the outside or peripheral edges l8 of the partitioning member D.
The partitioning member D is provided with a central opening I9 and with the edge openings 20.
The periphery [8 of the member D abuts the tops of the lugs I! to keep the partitioning member D in position.
The openings Hand 20 permit the partitioning member D to be readily removed from the interior of the box A.
The central upper inside portions of the side ing it out.
walls I I to I4 are provided with the inwardly directed tits 2| which are designed to cooperate with the recesses 22 in the lugs 23 depending downwardly from the periphery 24 of the cover B.
The cover B is provided with recesses 25 at opposite corners forming finger grip or receptor elements enabling the cover B to be bowed upwardly therebetween by pressing the finger grips or receptors 25 together. The cover B may thus be removed.
The grips or receptors .25. closely contact the box corners 27 as indicated at" 26' and hold the cover in position.
The cover B is also integrally provided with the downwardly projecting spindle 28 fitting into the opening 29, in the central wooden annulus 30 upon which is wrapped the ribbon 3| which is confined between the side plates 32.
The ribbon 3| may be removed from the container A, B, through the recess 33 in the side wall .|2 which recess is closed oif by the depending portion 34 from the corner 35 of thecover B.
, To assure registration of the depressed portion 34 with the recess 3, the arrows 36 and 3'! are provided respectively on the cover B and the base A.
.Of course, other means might be provided to fix the corner .at which the slot 33 and the lug 34 cooperate.
,' It is noted by reference to Figures 1 and 2, that the spool C is held as high as possible so that the ribbon maybe most readily removed through the .recess 33.
.As shown, the ribbon may be readily unreeled from the spool C through the recess 33 by pull- Whenever it is desirable to take stock, the lid 13 may be removed and the spool C may be inspected.
The spool C may be provided with a gauge such as shown in my copending application, Serial No. 154,157 filed July 17, 1937.
The ribbon will be kept in position while being unrolled by the central downwardly depending spindle 23.
In positioning the container A, B in the counter' construction, the partitions 38 of glass may formaldehyde resins, urea formaldehyde resins,
hard rubber and it most desirably is black in color although other colors may be employed.
The ribbon package C is protected from dirt and dust by the cover B and the slot 33 is protected by the partitions 38 and 39.
A new ribbon reel or spool may be placed in the counter fixture or in the container .or the ribbon may be inspected bymerely lifting the cover B.
In Figures 6 and 7, a lower spool C is shown in position with the ribbon 3| to be dispensed extending .through the slot in the partition D to the slot 33' at the opposite corner from the slot 33. The ribbons 3| and 3| of different grades, widths or qualities may be simultaneously displayed and dispensed.
In Figures 8 to 10, the cover B has been omitted and the container A inverted. The spindle I6 is ridged, at 55 to receive the sleeve 5|. The sleeve 5| is split at 52 for resiliency and is interiorly ridged or grooved at .53 to cooperate with the sleeve 5|. The projection 54 serves to support the spool C The bottom I0 of the box A is provided with the grips or finger receptors 25 and the whole container A is removed to permit replacement or inspection of the ribbon.
What is claimed is:
1. A counter fixture for dispensing ribbons and narrow fabrics comprising a rectangular container, a central spindle to center a ribbon reel and means to position said reel so that it will centrally engage said spindle, said container being provided with a cover, and said cover being provided with finger grip depressions at the corners thereof enabling removal of the cover, and said cover and container being provided with interengaging lug and snap tits to hold the cover in position and said container being provided with a horizontal slot adjacent one corner thereof formed between the cover and the top of the container to permit removal of the ribbon or narrow fabric.
