SASH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,113, dated July 20, 1880.
Application filed March 22, 1880. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WALTER C. UURRAN, of Ithaca, Tompkins county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in Window-Sash Holders, which invention is fully set forth in. the following speciication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide means of holding a Window-sash at any required point, and also to prevent any rattling of 'the sash by means of friction.
In the drawing, Figure I shows a sectional view of the holder in position.
a is a spring pressing against and partially inclosed within a case, b, of wood or metal. c is a plug, of Wood or metal, inserted into the other end of the spring a to hold the spring centrally in its place.
The plug c, spring a, and easel) are inserted to a proper depth in a hole bored into the edge of thewindoW-sash, and the necessary friction is produced by the pressure of the spring a forcing the case b outwardly against the window-frame. -This pressure of the spring can be regulated, if desired, by a screw, as
shown, working through the sash-rail against the back side of the plug c.
In one side of the case b a small groove, d, is formed, extending about three-eighths of an inch from the outer end of the case. A short bent Wire is driven into the outer edge of the sash, as shown, so that the outer end of said wire shall project into said groove d in the case b, and thereby form a stop, to prevent the case from springing out of the hole and being lost when the sash is removed from the window.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, With a Window-sash, suitably recessed, and provided with a guide-wire and an adj usting-sereW, of a sash-holder fitting Within the recess, and composed of the case O, grooved to receive the guide-wire, the coilspring a, and the plug c, all arranged substantially as herein set forth.
