1 Claim.
This invention relates to a device for securing sashes in place in building construction.
It has heretofore been common in building construction to secure or connect sash members by means of bolts and nuts, the bolts passing directly through the sash, necessitating punching holes which have to be matched and are seldom weatherproof after erection.
These devices have proved unsightly, objectionable, and difficult to use.
An object of my invention is to provide a connector device which will provide a positive and efiicient means for securing the sash in place in building construction in a rapid, economical and weatherproof manner and which obviates the necessity of providing apertures in the sash members.
A further object of my invention is to provide a connector device adapted to be economically manufactured at low cost, which will secure the sash in place in a simple, rapid and economical manner and which is unaffected by adverse weather conditions-a serious objection to devices heretofore proposed for the purpose.
These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the practical construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, and in which:

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a connector device embodying my invention used to secure the head jamb of a sash to structural steel pursuant to my invention, taken on line 66 of Fig. 1.
As shown "in the drawing, my invention is adapted for securing the head and side jambs of sash II and I2 respectively provided with glass receiving portions l3 for the reception of panes of glass G to the angle member of structural steel M. The head jambs II are secured to the angle member of structural steel 14 by means of the connector device I shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The structural steel I4 is usually riveted to the building.
The connector device l5 comprises an elongated body portion 25, having spaced studs l9 depending from one end thereof, whereby the other end 20 of said body portion will overlie the sash jamb in spaced relation (see Fig. 2).
The connector body portion 25 is provided with an aperture 2| adjacent and intermediate studs I9 for reception of a bolt 22 which is adapted to have threaded engagement with a threaded aperture 23 in the structural steel I l. The offset portion 20 of the connector device I5 is provided with a threaded aperture 24 for the reception of a bolt 26, the lower end of which is adapted to frictionally engage the inner edge of the head jamb ll, frictionally holding the same securely against the inner edge of the structural steel M, as clearly indicated in Fig. 2.
It will be noted that the lower end of the bolt 26 (Fig. 2) cuts into the material of the respective sash rail membersQholding the latter firmly in position. For this purpose the lower ends of said bolts are preferably case hardened. By merely loosening the bolts, the sash jambs may be readily released, for removal or for shifting to conform to requirements. It will be further noted that the connector device of my invention has no parts protruding from the exterior of the mullion or structural steel and that a weatherproof connection is attained by the use of my invention, and a substantial saving in the cost of fabricating and erection is effected.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A connector device for securing a sash jamb to a structural steel building member, comprising an elongated body portion, spaced studs depending from one end of said body portion and positioned on the steel building member with the jamb abutting against said studs, a bolt passing through the body portion of the connector device and steel building member to secure the body portion to the building member, the other end of said body portion overlying the sash jamb, and bolt means, passing through said overlying portion, engaging the jamb and holding the same against'the building member.
