Description

(Model.)' 7 v J. H. GROWELL.
Separ-dble Blitton.
No. 228,984. Patented June 22,1880.-
111117 k ii/III! A N.PETERS. PHQTQ-LWHOGRAFNER, WASHlNGTON, D, C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. OROWELL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
SEPARABLE BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,984, dated June 22, 1880.
Application filed March 8, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. GROWELL, of Providence, Rhode Island, have iiwented a new and useful Separable'Button, of which the following is a specification.
My invention 'relates to improvements in separable buttons in which the hollow post is engaged by a lockin g devicevoperated by pushers; and the object of my improvement is to construct in one piece the pushers, catches, and spring, and to retain said piece ina slotted post and the top of the button by means,
of a sin gle-piece shoe. I attain these objects ing drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of the entire button, and Fig. 2 a vertical section of the slotted post and shoe at right angles to the view of the post and shoe as shown in Fig. 1.
To the top A is secured the slotted post B.
The pushers a a, catches b b, and spring (ModeL) beyond the sides of the post, and when the two parts of the button are together they engage the inside of the shoulder formed on the end of the hollow post E, which is secured to the bottom shoe, F.
Inside of the post E is secured the ring 6, for holding the end of the post B steady when the two parts of the button are together.
To separate the two parts of the button the pushers a a are pressed together, thus contracting the spring 0 and pushing the catches 'b 1) inside of the external diam'eter of the slotted post B and free from the shoulder on the end of the hollow post E, which permits the top of the button, with its attached parts, to be separated from the bottom post, E, and bottom shoe, F. a
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a separable button, the combination of the top A, pushers a a, catches b 1), spring 0, slotted post B, and holding-shoe D with the hollow post E, having shoulders at its upper end, ring 0 at its lower end, and secured to the shoe or bottom F, substantially as shown, for the purpose specified.
JOHN H. OROWELL.
